tped
I have convinced myself that instead of buying more rifles that I don't use - I need to buy a good semi-auto shotgun that also will probably not use much but since I do not own one - I have decided that this years gun should be a semi 12 guage. Question is since I only plan on buying one should I suffice with the old standby 11-87 and save the money or go all out and buy a premium gun such as the Benelli SBE - Berretta Xtrema or Browning Gold. What do you guys think?
Mach1
Re: New shotgun opinions I'm a Remington guy through and through, but I've heard of guys having problems with the o-ring on the 11-87 getting wet and freezing or dryrot causing the gun to not operate. That info has made me think twice about eventually buying an 11-87. The 3 you mentioned are all high quality firearms and you couldn't go wrong with any of them IMO. Leo
Re: New shotgun opinions [ QUOTE ] Benelli SBE - Berretta Xtrema or Browning Gold. What do you guys think? [/ QUOTE ] Any one of those is very good. You can get by with a cheaper gun but if you do alot of shotgunning you'll be sorry.

WaCoyote
Re: New shotgun opinions Winchester super X2 is a browning gold. Go with the cheeper of the 2 since they are vertually identical. Berettas also have a very good rep. Thats where I would start.
tped
Re: New shotgun opinions Thanks guys. Never really considered the Winchester model. Too bad you don't get to demo a gun before you buy. I have a couple friends that have the Benelli and swear by them but you can buy 2 - Remingtons for the cost of the others. I really don't pay that much attention to the cost as unlike my rifles this is a once and done situation. I can only see me using only one and not wanting anymore as the one I use will only be minimal at best. Just too much conflict with Archery hunting to get much time chasing other things. longhorn57
Re: New shotgun opinions I love my 11-87! I have had it for a little over 5 years now and not had 1 problem with it. I think it is a great gun for the money. Just go to the gun shop and see which one you like best.
Guest Xen
Re: New shotgun opinions i put 5,000 rounds through an 11-87 over the course of 2 years. i cleaned it very well after ever 100-200 rounds and never had any mechanical problems with it. once in a while i would have a shell hang up while ejecting, but nothing bad

[/ QUOTE ] Do you still ahve to switch out O-rings on the 3 1/2" 11-87 when switching shell length or have they fixed that problem??
Guest Xen
Re: New shotgun opinions honestly, i never shot a 3 1/2" in my 11-87, it was all 2 3/4" and 3" - 90% was skeet shooting, but I did use it for some bird hunting

[/ QUOTE ] Never did. They make an adapter that turns an 11-87 into an 1100. With the adapter, you can shoot light one ounce target loads up through heavy field loads. After that remove the adapter and shoot the long stuff. I still recommend the gun that has won more clay target championships than all others, the Rem 1100 or the newest version in the 11-87. All gas operated semis will require some maintenance to keep them working. If you go with a benelli, you loose the recoil reduction advantage of the semi. HoosierDaddy28
Re: New shotgun opinions The remingtons have won more because they have been around for so long. I doubt many shooters 30 yrs ago were carrying berettas and benellis...I have two berettas and love them both. I would recommend going to a place where you can feel the gun and see what fits you best. We all are going to have different opinions on the guns. tped
Re: New shotgun opinions Was at Cabels's today and got to handle all of the choices. I was surprised by the difference of weight in all of them. I liked the weight and feel of the Benelli best and the next was the Beretta.. I have to check with my gun guy on his price. Cabelas was basically $1450 for each gun give or take a couple bucks. Hard to swallow.

tped
Re: New shotgun opinions I didn't get a chance to look at it but I saw that Dicks Sporting Goods had a Beretta Extrema on closeout for $999. I figure it can't be the current model. They did have camo 11-87's for $599 and a $50 rebate which is starting to look real good compared to the Beretta but I hate to make a judgement based on price alone. Guest aitchie666
Re: New shotgun opinions Beretta xtrema 2 with kick off pad. I have have one and it the nuts and with the kick off recoil system has no recoil. Get one and you wont regret it
too_pointer
Re: New shotgun opinions I have the Mossberg 935 magnum. All you can shoot is 3" and 3 1/2" through it. Although I really like the weight and how it feels, it kicks like a horse with the 3 1/2" and that is with a simms recoil pad LOL Too bad you can't run some loads through the different brands. too_
tped
Re: New shotgun opinions Maybe I should just buy them from Cabelas, one at a time and try them and return if I don't like it. I can't believe they actually have a 30 day money back, no questions asked, return policy on guns. Closest thing to try and buy as you can get with guns. Too bad their prices are way too high.
