jbeck
I just thought I'd check in with all the Pa. hunters and see how they did. I'll start, Had a young hunter with me, and I was videoing. Just after you could see a little bit, he looks around at me and says BEAR. Yep, there is a bear that was bedded 30 yards below us. He stands up, and slowly walks off. Well needless to say we didn't see any deer this morning. Then I pull in the driveway and there stand 5 long beard gobblers 50 yards away in the field. Sorry no pics, the batteries were dead in the camera. Now my daughter has a Tee Party this afternoon, so I doubt we'll be out this evening, but I'll let you know if I get out. Good luck everyone. Hoyt03
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do Yeah yeah yeah always see the big long beards when the camera is dead, lol. Very cool about the bear, I bet your hunter was pumped up. I sat in my stand today that apparently is slightly too close to the bedding area. Had 2 nice fat does come in at 7 and mill around and browse for 1/2 hr then kinda just disappeared. Had a shot at 29 yards but was too early in the morning to be filling the freezer. At 8 had a good buck coming in from the wrong way of course. He either winded me and smelled my trail I walked in on, b/c he stopped about 50 yards blowing like crazy for 5 minutes then walked off the other way. When I got down from stand I ended up bumping one of the does I saw earlier in the morning, she was bedded about 45 yards below me in this thick stuff. Going to hunt my sisters place tonight, its a good evening stand. She's been seeing a very big 8 coming out in her back yard most nights. Hopefully I can get a crack at him. P.S I need to make an order for some mt side calls for this coming fall bird season. Would like to get a few mouth calls that you would recommend and possibly a box call. Let me know what you got and send me a bill, and I'll send a check up. Goodluck this evening
PAbowhunter4life
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do Morning: 4 doe, 500 turkey and a whole lot of rain. Spooked 1 doe on the way in to my stand. Had 3 come by about 8 a.m. . Drew back, anchored on the closest one which was about 25 yards, but she never gave me a decent shot so I let down. Left the woods about 9:30 after I was officially soaked. Evening: Back in the woods by 4. A little after 5 a tiny buck came through and that was it for the day, well, except for a little more rain. Strut10
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do Crappy weather but good day. Saw 3 bucks and 5 does/fawns in the A.M. Had a purty little basket-rack 8 point straight under me twice. He was chasing does like it was November. Left at 9:15 Got up tonite about 4:00. Two bucks (6-point & 8- point) appeared on a powerline to my left and began fighting. Fought/goofed/fed for nearly 1/2 hr. Watched the 8 make a scrape. They came around behind me then walked a road past me 7 yards to my right. Just not what I'm looking for.

Switchbacker
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do had a 6 or an 8 come under me right just before shooting hours followed by a total of 9 does that came from all directions to feed on acorns the tree i was in was dropping. Evening had a 3 point cruise by around 4 and two does bust me around 5, so that pretty much killed my area for the evening. Awesome feeling to know its all started up again. cweinste
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do Morning right after day break passed on small 10 probably 2 1/2 years (bearly a ten) But it was cool to watch him feed by at about 26 yards, later in the morn. a mom and two lil ones fed by, out of stand at 10:00 (wet)... Went to the stand for th evening at about 2, deer were out everywhere!! bumped 6 laying in the middle of a field! 3 small bucks, and 3 doe... About 5 mins in stand saw 2 young does... then about 5 pm the deer started to move out of the crab apple thicket i was below, ended up seeing 22 deer feed into field, only 6 close enough to shoot, but they were both a mom and two lil ones, fed right by at about 6 steps, Awesome day!! Left a lil early as i was watching a huge thunderstorm role in... Yea DIDNT BEAT IT! haha got really wet on the quad ride back to camp! All in all a good day though! oldblue
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do Saw about 20 squirrels and nothing more. Had a nice morning in the two man stand with my Dad, but would have like to have seen at least one deer even if it was 50 yards away. But nice being out in the woods again. Will try this week again. bghunter777
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do morning was slow saw 5 deer 3 does 2 button bucks the button bucks stayed withing 40 yards for about 2 hours. the evening hunt I jumped probably 12 deer on the way in one shooter buck looked like a 10 maybe 18 wide prob high 120s need to find a better way into this stand. while actually on stand I saw one deer that happened to be a buck it was an 8 pt he was at about 30 yards prob low 100s I thought about shooting but opted not to. looking forward to the weekend. good luck all. Guest elungbuster
Re: First day Pa, how did ya do my first day was some what good. i"ll explain well this is how my day went. pulled up to the field 3 doe standing there .i got my flash light out and the battery:s were dead. but monday i went and got a tree stand light remote were you push the remote and the light flashes strongly recommend that so i found my stand .climed up the tree and was putting in my tree hook when i heard something eating looked down a seen a 225 or 250 black bear that made my day is was so sharp .just laying on it"s belly eating acorns for about 45 minutes i just sat there in pure joy. he walked away and hour later 10 turkey was feeding behind me watched them for 10 minutes. i was out of the woods by 10;30. back in by 3;15 this is were it gets bad .around 4;25 a nice 8 point and a doe was walking 20 yards to my right .i drew back anshoot hit the buck square in its back. and it fell right over i said to my self he"s down so i watch him for about 5 minutes when all of sudden the buck jumped up and ran had a little blood but no trail of blood so we desided to wait for morning to look we looked for 3 hours no luck i was so mad i did not fall asleep for about 2 hours last night thats how my first day was
