Ok...Well Fist Off I Am Somewhat Of A Mossberg Guy Through And Through. I Would Stick By My Old 500 Pump Anyday, But My Dad Has This Really Sharp Lookin 870 Express And He Keeps Holdin It Over My Head That The Guys That We Shoot Trap With All Shoot Those Guns And Have Better Luck Over All Then Me With My 500. Has Anyone Actually Shot Both And Which One Do You Like Better? confused.gif

Re: Mossberg Vs. Remington

Remington, hands down in my books. I had a Mossberg 9200 that was the biggest piece of junk I ever owned in a shotgun. But, that's the experience I had with one; your own experieces I hope, were much better. But, it turned me off to the brand itself. Never had problems with any Remington.

The choice of shotgun may or may not have an affect on your shooting however, the 870 is a better shotgun. The express though, is the economy version while the wingmaster is the "deluxe" model for lack of a better word. They are wholly different. I have 2 wingmasters and the actions are slick and smooth. I bought my daughter an express 20 ga. and while it's a fine little gun it's not anywhere near the wingmaster.

I would like you to consider a Browing BPS. I switched to them back in the days when they took lead away from waterfowlers and I find the Browning to be a superior shotgun. I have three and absolutely love them.

Re: Mossberg Vs. Remington

first of all, don't ever listen to anybody that tells you that your gun isn't good enough to shoot a good score with. i've had my "cheap", old, worn-out browning sitting in the gun rack for the shoot-offs right along side the perazzis and kriegoffs.

now, all that being said, i would take an 870 over a mossberg. i have shot a couple of different mossberg 500's and have shot an old schoold quality 870 and a new school cheap wally-world 870. i like the 870 a lot more than the mossberg

Re: Mossberg Vs. Remington

Never shot a 500 but i have an 870 express and a mossberg 835. I would give the remington a slight edge but the mossberg 835 is a decent gun as well. I have heard stories of all the beatings and abuse 870's have taken for years and still hit the mark. They are a very durable hunting gun. If you have a 500 already I wouldnt get an 870 express, if you want a gun for trap get something slightly more specialized. Not enough difference b/w the 870 and 500.

I wouldn't shoot either for trap if you are going to be serious about it. Beretta 391 would be the minimun. Yes it comes down to the shooter, but a trap gun is a whole lot easier to shoot trap with than a field grade Remington or Browning, or Mossberg etc..

well we dont really shoot competitions...its just a group of 15-20 family friends that get together every now and then to shoot. so im not gonna go spend in the $600-700 range on somethin im just lookin at something kinda in the all purpose range...someone suggested the charles daly the other day to me but i havent heard the best about those. so has anyone had any expirience with them?

Re: Mossberg Vs. Remington

It depends. If the Mossberg shoots where you look and the Remington does not, the Mossberg is the better gun...for you. Having said that, both guns are good quality mechanically. The Rem has better fit and finish of its parts. To some the Mossberg feels like you are holding a 2x4.

To shoot a good score, its the shooter, not the gun.
