Her First Hunt is Over

Today was my wifes first hunt ever....and a Bowhunt at that....

We setup the ground blind after going to a spot she wanted to go see what it was like.

We hunted for just over 3-1/2hrs and...

We got to view the MOST DEER I've EVER SEEN ON PUBLIC LAND....16 Deer shocked.gifshocked.gifshocked.gif

Wish they would have come close enough for a shot but even I was not tempted when the closest deer was 72yds by the rangefinder smirk.gif

Oh Well...WHAT A SHOW cool.gifcool.gifcool.gif

We laughed, We joked with each other, We played range estimation games(pick a tree and geuss how far-then use the rangefinder on it)...then as the afternoon started to wind down our eyes got bigger and bigger with each group of deer that passed by.

I have to say there was a whole lot of hope happening in that ground blind this afternoon!!!

Just one deer turn and walk this way...just one...anyone blush.gifgrin.gif

All the deer movement happened during the last hour and during a light to medium rain!

I liked that ground blind alot right then too...LOL

But like I said it was a great show but that was all...and I have no doubt that shes completely hooked now. cool.gif

She said: "Can we come back tommorrow"???

I must admit I easily said "OH YEAH BABY...YOU BETTER BELIEVE WE CAN" grin.gif

that's great. i took my girlfriend on her first hunt last year, rifle hunt. we watched a crp field.. sadly it was one of those days.. no deer in sight so it didn't go as well. after about an hour she asked if we could go shoot squirrels.. she didn't realize the differnce in the 22 we shoot squirrels with and the 270. BUT she does want to go back again, even got her shooting a bow this summer.

Re: Her First Hunt is Over

Well shes been sleeping for over an hour now...LOL

I have yet to remove my camo..I wish the day could keep going on and on grin.gif

We worked out the bugs in using the ground blind together which is a good thing. She found out that her broadheads were definitely sharp when she leaned forward a bit too far and poked a very small hole in the wall blush.gif So I did it too and we even laughed about it cool.gif

She found out how hard it was to draw her bow back from the sitting position...but she assured me it would not be a problem if a deer came by grin.gif

Anywho...the fact that she wants to go again is what makes today a complete success in my book.

Oh yeah..almost forgot...she even demanded to carry all her stuff in and out!!!! shocked.gif

...Someone must have been praying for me thats all I know cool.gifwink.gifcool.gifgrin.gif

Tommorrow were going to a spot where I've had good success before and with the wind direction thats predicted it should be just as slamming good as today cool.gif

...and NO Steve...No pictures of the sign yet though I did have it in my pack grin.gif

...Ken, State Forest Land that last year when I hunted it I saw a total of 3 deer not counting the one I saw during the spring camping out there...I know...It amazed me too...Deer in NEW YORK??? Who'da Thunk It grin.gif

BTW...The ground blind setup today was probably no more than 75-100 feet from where this pic of her was taken during this past winters "Late Season Scouting Trip"(probably why she picked it-shes no dummy) wink.gif

Are you sure you were still in NY?? grin.gif

Deer are moving great in NY right now, especially in the last couple hours of daylight. Got kind of a late start this afternoon and saw 7 already in an alfalfa field driving to the hunting property at 4pm. Right around 6pm there were deer all over. Had two different friends say they saw over 15 deer the same night as Gary, although I didn't see any that night.

The night I didn't see any I wasn't very close to any good mast crop. Right now where I hunt, hickory nuts and apples are like candy. Watched 3 deer leave a corn field (presumably where they bedded today), browse across a stretch of clover, and come into the tree line where I was hunting to get to the hickory nuts. The largest doe got to eat a couple before a Rocket Hammerhead-tipped cx300 through the heart interrupted her laugh.gif.
