Re: Bow hunting food plots??

I am in the same boat for a few of my stands.

I have tried everything at least twice....

Best advice it to go in very early. 1.5 to 2 hours before legal light and sit.

On my property I get different pods of deer. I may spook a few going in but I leave well enough darkness for other deer to wander in and feed. Or those to wander back.

Hopefully I am there befoe there are and just need to wait on the clock...

As for leaving, I wait as long as I can to not spook deer. Sometimes thats hours after legal, sometimes its minutes, depending on what responsibilities I have at home.

Like eating. LOL

[ QUOTE ]

It seems my plots are hard to hunt?

Morning hunts:

It seems deer are already in them so I spook them getting into the stand.

Evening Hunts:

As night fall comes deer are in the plots so if/when I get out of my stand I will again spook deer.

So what do you guys do?? confused.gif

Thanks Todd.

Have this problem in my clover plots year after year. Have been stuck in the stand for over an hour after legal shooting light before and still ended up spooking deer getting down.

i think we all have or have had this trouble...i know i have and do...i just get there early and hope for the best...the evenings to me are the best cause the deer are bedded to the south of me then come to the plot...then come into my stand..oh yes they run but after i fling an arrow at them...

I believe the best thing to do is to setup in between their bedding area and the plot. Catch them coming to and from the plot. If there is any way to sneak into a well used trail, to and from your plot, you are more likely to have a chance at a big buck, they generally leave early and arrive late. Thus, catching them inbetween the two points, you are more likely to have a chance getting him during shooting hours.

i did that one night, there was going to be a full moon, so after i was done hunting i went back to my truck and put my bow up then i snuck back in to a stand i had over a foodplot, stayed there until about 1 in the morning. i couldnt believe the deer i saw and the size of bucks we had around, kinda gives you a new understanding on what is happening in the woods when we are not around

Re: Bow hunting food plots??

You can hunt where they stage in the afternoons. You should know where the deer come out into your plots, a lot of times we will hunt 100 to 300 yards off our plots in climbers so we can be mobile and not spook the deer. As far as the mornings I think it was said, you really have to get there early if you are spooking them out walking in.
