Well I wasnt planning on hunting/sweating opening day, but a buddy wanted to film me so I went, we had 2 mature does and 2 yearling come in, I asked if he was ready, so I come to full draw, 20 yard chip shot, wack! String caught my armguard, missed clean. The doe just looks at us, so I draw again, clean miss, that one I pulled! Third times a charm? Not for me, she finally took off right as I was squeezing the release! This brings me to the evening hunt, my wife wanted to go watch me shoot something, and to be honest, I needed to kill to redeem myself! About 5:15 I was getting bored, so at 5:30 I tell her we should see something soon, shortly after I catch movement to my right, and its 2 bucks and a doe, and one of the bucks is a shooter! I get her attention and grab my bow, she has the camera on him and he is on a string, 7 yards, let it rip, nailed him!!!! He runs about 65 yards and stands bleeding out of his side, the angle was funny I knew I caught him good on the front side, but the exit was back, so he walks slowly off and I hear him bed down.

We waited an hour, I check my arrow, good clean red blood. Find the trail to where he stood, good bright red clean blood, but not a whole lot. We decide to wait. About dark we slowly follow the trail, about 100yards up he gets up and cant hardly move but then bolts out, so we left him last night. I have some buddies going to look today and I will go out tonight.

I watched the video, he is hit good, I know I caught liver for sure. We will find him, but too bad the meat wont be edible. Not the way I wanted to start the year, but its a start, and I will have video up soon for you al.

I'm confused....why won't the meat be edible?

I've let plenty deer sit over-night, and the meat has "always" been edible. You just have to cut off the belly-flaps, back to the tenderloins and backstraps, and give it a good white vinegar wipe down on the inside of the body cavity.

There is nothing wrong with the meat if you find it today.
