Guest CoyoteControl
Re: how far?? They call it "calling coyotes" for a reason. You call, the coyote comes, thinking it's a rabbit,or bird or mouse, and should be between 20 and 60 yards when you pull the trigger. They can't eat dinner 500 yards away from the screaming little devil, they have to come on in to get it:)
98chevy
Re: how far?? I dont know how to call um. Im sorry for dissapointing yall. Ive never heard of calling them till i got on this website. i saw a guy on tv hunt them with labs. Im very intrested in this hunting because i can do it year around and really have some fun with them. Are yotes are also little "tame" they get real close while im walkin around and so fourth. they groul and so fourth ill scream or shoot um with my little .22 pistol. But when i hunt them there always along way off sometimes they come out close. So if some one could point me in the right derection id apprciate it. Lke i said im clueless. I can shoot long distaces but my buddys cant so they cant enjoy it. Is the callin anything like turkey hunting do you use decoys?? like i said im clueless but want to try somtin this weekend. also do i hunt morning evening anytime of day? night? and if i hunt them at night how do i hunt them. WaCoyote
Re: how far?? First off leave the .22 in the holster. It's just too small for yotes unless wounding them doesn't bother you. 2nd 400+ yard shots are just too far. I've shot them at that distance before but I've missed them too. The problem is, when you call them and they hang up at 400-500 yds and you miss then you've just educated a yote that will never come to a call again. My average shot is 180 or so. Last year I shot several in the high 200's and 3 or so just past 300 but I won't go past 350. You've got yourself about a 5" target and thats mighty small at extreme ranges. When calling them you'll get many to close to 150 or less. At that range it's just about a done deal with the proper skills and equipment. I did miss a 140 yd chipshot about two weeks ago though! It happens.
Guest CoyoteControl
Re: how far?? Don't feel bad Wacoyote:) I would hazzard 80% of my called coyotes are well under the hundred yard mark, like I made mention, a guy ough to be able to call a coyote to within 60 yards, and usually far less. At close to modest ranges, a guy can still miss what he thought was a chip shot:)
WaCoyote
Re: how far?? [ QUOTE ] a guy ough to be able to call a coyote to within 60 yards [/ QUOTE ] You have to consider where other people hunt though. I hunt a lot of rolling wheat fields with sparse cover, 200 yard shots are common.
