Guest timpat
Re: Draw weight 5'8 140lbs started at 45lbs last year and this year im at 70lbs, but shot all year long just about everyday, 55lbs is more then enough to kill a dear...70lbs will shoot clean through one if hit in a soft spot, haha i know
Guest Lever_gun450
Re: Draw weight When I started I was 13 5'4' 120 pounds maybe, at 50#, but i've shot my whole life, it helps.Start at a weight thats comfortable for you, and won't fatigue you fast. then try to at least shoot 30-40 shots a day only take you 15-20 mins. Add around 2- 3 pounds a weeks until you are were you need to be. you should be in the 50 pound weght comfortably in no time. I also wouldn't get to secure in the thought that 40# can kill a deer easily, 40# can kill an elk if it's placed perfect, but what if you hit a shoulder blade, or a rib. You just don't have the power behind it. Just keep working hard at it, develop good shootin skills and you'll have a 150'' in no time Good Luck! ~Dave
Guest aaronchase
Re: Draw weight if you can be as lucky as me and have an archery range near by that runs a class every week ... go to it ... and if you start at 40# that will kill a deer np... but after you practice you can up the poundage like i did and im at 75# right now comfortably ... trust me practice does improve more than just accuracy. Guest IL_HuNtIn_KiD
Re: Draw weight personally...i started just this year at 45lbs....did a LOT of practiceing...and ive worked my way up to 67lb right now...yea yea i know..starting at 45 with my size and my extreme football weight lifting program is a little girly...but thats where i felt comfortable putting 40-50 shots a day through my bow...so it all depends on what you are doing and where you are comfortable at
ihunt365
Re: Draw weight get some weights and move your way up. I started at 40 lbs a year ago and now worked my way up to 60lbs. The only things with bow is you want a complete pass threw so the tracking is easier and the deer will bleed more. Good luck with your bow. Dakota
Re: Draw weight I'm 16, not gonna say how much I way (it's not that bad, don't worry), and I'm shooting a 45# Martin Tyger/Lynx compound. My first bow was a Golden Eagle Little Brave 20# recurve. From there I went to a Sears 40# recurve to my Martin compound. I just gradually went up a notch. Steve's right in saying that the draw weight gets "heavier" when you draw back on a deer. I felt that here in November when I pulled back on a spike buck. I was shaking so much, I nicked him at 25 yards and then missed him at 20. That is the stupidest deer I've ever seen! Good luck w/ your bow! Grant-KS
Re: Draw weight I haven't shot my bows in way too long, but I'll be shooting a 50-60 with the limbs bottomed out. I don't see any reason to pull more than 60Lbs. for deer.
