Youngster scores big on 1st ever bowhunt!!

Opening day turned out to be a BIG success for this new bowhunter. I had patterned this buck with the help of a trail camera and a 15’ double ladder stand was set up for one of my closest friends to introduce his 11 year old son (Kyle) to the joy of bowhunting.

The afternoon was the time the buck usually moved so the morning went by with only a spike showing himself. It was pretty warm that afternoon and around 5:00 Kyle whispered to his dad “this stand’s not looking like it’s so hot”. It was only 15 minutes before that changed. The buck suddenly appeared to their right. Kyle’s only words to his dad were “BIG BUCK”! When the buck went behind cover Kyle’s dad grabbed by the collar and stood him up. I guess Kyle was caught up in the moment. As the buck stepped into the shooting lane at 15 yards Kyle’s dad whispered “draw”. Kyle drew and delivered the arrow to the mark. The buck went downhill about 75 yards before expiring. About 15 minutes after the buck went out of sight, dear old dad asked Kyle if the stand was shaking so much because of him or both of them. LMBO. I know the feeling. Kyle’s 1st day to ever bowhunt turned out to be the one where he killed his biggest buck so far. His velvet covered 8 point buck has a 13 1/2” inside spread, 21 and 21 1/4” main beams, 4 5/8” bases and weighed 203 pounds.

Here's Kyle with his velvet covered 8 point.

There's some things more important than killing a buck yourself. The hug I got from both Kyle and his Dad along with the thrill of sharing the moment with them is priceless. wink.gif
