Guest ronin
My wife asked for a .17 HMR rifle for Christmas. This really surprised me but I like the idea! Anyway, she doesn't want a lever gun or a pump but anything else would be fine...SA or bolt. Moderate price range limiting, can I get some thoughts good brands and models? Strut_Buster
Re: Which .17 HMR? I think Ruger makes a 10/22 in 17 HMR. I would look for one of those. remington also makes a 597 in 17 HMR. Or a Marlin Bolt.

lil hunter
Re: Which .17 HMR? I'd get a Savage. I don't really have any experience with 17's though.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Which .17 HMR? You'll like the Savage. I have one----they are accurate & a blast to shoot. Prairie dogs around here are SCARED !!

AJ
Re: Which .17 HMR? It depends on what type you are looking for. If you want a bolt gun, there are a few models that will work just fine like the Savage 93R17-BVSS, CZ 452, Marlin 917, maybe even the Ruger 77/17. For semi auto guns, the Ruger 10/22 Magnum and the Remington 597 Magnum. H&R/NEF has a single shot Sportster in 17 HMR. You can get extra barrels in 22 lr and 22 Mag also. Guest ronin
Re: Which .17 HMR? I bought the aforementioned Savage. It really felt nice. The trigger and saftey were very smooth, too, unlike the other guns I looked at. Better yet, it was the least expensive gun of the lot! I was prepared to spend about $400 and I got the rifle and scope for $300! I'm glad you mentioned the Savage...I was kind of waiting for your input! Guest ronin
Re: Which .17 HMR? This is a starter gun for my wife and I'm sure she'll love it. Hopefully, that means she might shoot turkey with me in the spring, too. If she's talking about whackin' yotes, turkey ought to be easy. So far, she simply goes for the walk and time in the woods. AJ
Re: Which .17 HMR? Take her out and frag some ground squirrels with the new gun. Its a lot of fun and it makes good yodel dog bait for later in the evening.
