AJ
For bears that could get rather big, I would go with a heavier bullet than for deer. I would look at the conical bullets from Precision Rifle in 350 or 400 grains. I would look at the Keith solid or Keith Hollow Point. Another option is the Powerbelt bullets. I would look at the same weight bullets. Typically bear hunting is close range stuff so you don't need MOA accuracy. Even 4 MOA at 100 yards will be sufficient for most bear hunting. If you spot and stalk the bears, you can get longer range shooting but if shot from a bait pile, its usually close range stuff. Test each type and see what you like the best. hangunnr
Re: BP bullet for Black Bear If you are in the mood for a jacketed pistol bullet in a sabot give the Nosler Partition HG a try. This bullet is very durable. It should be able to handle any bear out there. That Keith style bullet with the large meplat offered by Precision should be a good performer also. hangunnr
WABS
Re: BP bullet for Black Bear I've owned a T/C BD for a number of years now and once I got hooked up with Powerbelt bullets I've never gone back to anything else. I've had very good success with the accuracy and the performance of both the 295 gr and (even better) with the 348 gr. I use 110 gr of Pyrodex Select behind both bullets. Happy Hunting! Norm Sauceman
Re: BP bullet for Black Bear Powerbelt 295 grain ballistic tip with 150 grains of Hodgdon pellets would be my choice.
too_pointer
Re: BP bullet for Black Bear I agree with Norm on the bullet, but I have never tried 150 gr, just 100 gr. Powerbelts for me, load good, shoot good, and KILL great !! too-pointer
