wtnhunt
Re: Windy Days I try to hunt whenever I can, but I reall ydo not like to hunt high winds. Have tried a few stalks with high winds, but am limited to a small piece of property. Windy days-when the wind is over 25 sustained.
123 4/8 P&Y
Re: Windy Days I strongly dislike windy days. Especially when it's cold out. If my alarm goes off and I look outside to see the trees blowing around, there's a good chance I might sleep in! Unless it's prime time. Then I'm out no matter what. Windy days in Nebraska are also around 25mph. But we get gusty days that exceed 40mph! I prefer 15mph winds in the afternoon that die down to around 5mph about 30mins before sunset. With a little breeze I can predict where my wind goes. When it's dead still, who knows what direction my scent travels.
VTbowman
Re: Windy Days Most of my bow stands are in maples that are no large around then 6" to 10" at stand height. This means anything over 15 mph is like riding a carnival ride. I have 2 others in larger trees but a lot higher too. LOL I will hunt ground blinds and stalk on windy days when bow hunting. During rifle season I just hang out in my box stands and keep an eye on all the field edges.
missouri hunter
Re: Windy Days I will hunt windy days if I planned on getting out in advance. I usually don't sit as long and use those days to scout. Scouting should not end with the beginning of bow season.....
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Windy Days Don't like the wind blowing where you sit in the stand and feel like your on the water, strong winds just put the deer on edge too, they will move but very cautious as falling leaves and branches have them being on guard more than normal. You can't get one if you don't try. One thing you should do is practice shooting your bow in high wind conditions. That helps.

Guest Deepwoods1
Re: Windy Days I like to hunt close to bedding areas when the wind is blowing. Make sure the wind is in your favor, otherwise they will know your there before you have a chance to nock an arrow. I also like to still hunt in or around corn fields. Both methods have paid off for me.
Tominator
Re: Windy Days I don't like sitting in trees on windy days. That's a tough hunt. I do like stalking in the corn on windy days.
KyBucks
Re: Windy Days I'll hunt in my stand in a light wind 10-15 mph, but I got broke from hunting in a stand during heavy wind a few years ago...... I was hanging on for dear life. LOL I have saw a few deer moving in pretty hard wind, but they are always on edge and look like they are almost on their belly crawling through the woods.
