Sorry to have to read about this in yesterday's paper. A 20 year old female bowhunter died as a result of falling out of her treestand. Please say a prayer for her family.

Guys and Gals, PLEASE, PLEASE, wear your safety harness reading stories like this should drive home the point. Do not think it will not happen to you, accidents happen. frown.gif

Re: Michigan Bowhunter dies from fall!

WHY!!!!!...Why would anyone even consider hunting from a treestand without a harness? I have said it before, and I'm gonna say it again. There is absolutely NO reason to not where a harness. If you can't afford a harness...you can't afford to hunt from an elevated stand. Be smart people...it can happen to YOU! Think of you family, and your children and your friends. This could be your funeral they are attending instead of the girl in the story.

(Quote)I've been hunting for years with rifle...second year on bow...and first year with muzzle loader. I'm going to go with the idea of a trimmed piece of electrical tape. Being able to shoot it off with no effect sounds good to me. I believe the majority hear about moisture. Never know what situation might arise to get moisture to the powder.

No doubt a fool and his money have been parted...But only a FOOL wouldn't take simple percautions to lesson the odds of unforseen chances of a mishap.

I would say that theory would also apply to safety practices. I hope I'm not a fool because I paid good money for a "quality" safety harness. (Dispite the fact that I have never fallen out of a tree.)(End Quote)

I know I've been guilty of going out early to set up a stand (pre-hunt) and climbing the tree to look around to see shooting lanes. And no kidding...I had falling on my mind the whole time. (butterflies) I usually go up a minimum of 20 feet. I guage it by the string I use to pull the bow from the ground up to my stand.

Re: Michigan Bowhunter dies from fall!

That’s so sad! My thoughts and prayers to the family! We had a new member in our club fall out of a climbing stand opening day. He fell 15 feet. Landed on his head and shoulder. After the ambulance ride they discovered he only dislocated his shoulder and severe bruise. One “lucky 275lb man”.

Wear a safety belt – How many times have you heard that statement? Well make it one more!

''One in three (hunters) that climb up in a tree are going to fall out during the course of their lives. That's the national average,''

Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt, Absolutely, Positively, Completely Preventable

A Sad loss of someone who had a passion for the sport.

Very sad. I have falling from a tree stand if it had not been for saftey belt I might be dead or crippled or something (saftey belts do save lifes)!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

They do save lives. When you fell, did you replace your safey harness? That is another thing you should do, once you use them you need to throw that one away and get a new one. Some manufactuers will possibly give you a deal on a new one. Check the maker of it. If you are hunting with the one that saved your life you do need to replace it though.
