pointing_dogs_rule
Hi Guys!!! With the surgery I had last month I decided to take up goose hunting cornfields here in Iowa. I patterned some feeding in this one field last week. Well, I borrowed a 12 guage and some really nice "FINAL APPROACH DECOYS". I set up my blind along a fence row and placed out the 10 life size decoys. I also took my 2 wirehaired pointing griffons (Hank & Mike). Well, at 7:30 4 geese fly by and honk. I call to them. NOTE: I went out and bought this call last night. I called a few times and to my surprise they turned and came my way. I almost fell over and my eyes were as big a pie plates. They passed in front of my blind at 40 yards. I let them pass and they circled over my double bull blind at 30 feet. I had no shot until they came around to the front. When they did I shot three times and MISSED!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. NOTE; geese fly faster then you think and don't shoot at the butts of the geese cause it does not phase them (LOL)!!!!!!! I had a great first ever goose hunt and plan to do it more times. I am learning and will try and be more patient next time out. What a rush!!! By the way the dogs were bery well behaved until I shot and they both tried jumping out of the double bull blind windows (LOL)!!!!!! Needless to say there was nothing to retreive!!!! Good luck to all & God bless the dog
