Chrud
I have a question for the HSS users. For those of you with the reversible model, do you notice any of the blaze orange at all when wearing it camo-side out? I am thinking about exchanging mine (Bowhunter) for the reversible so I can use it for gun hunting also. I don't really care for wearing a harness under my coat, so the blaze orange side is sort of a must.
GWSmith
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I've also got the Bowhunter model of the HSS. Luckily for me though the shop where I bought it also is a boot and western clothing store...with a heavy emphasis on the boot side of the business. He's got just about every sewing machine they make. I talked to him the other day about adding a fabric style Blaze Orange vest that I have to my current safety harness so that it's removable. New York reccomends but does not require that a hunter wear Blaze Orange. Other States that I hunt do have that as a requirement though. jerdanmagic
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I have the reversable model and I can't say that I do notice any blaze orange when I wear it camo side out. I really like the simplicity of my harness, my only compaint would be that it is a little warm for early season hunting.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I have the Pro Series Model in mesh, love it. You have to be careful about wearing vests under your hunting coat. If you were to fall and then regain your composure, you may need to either cut the vest tethers off and/or re-adjust something. A coat covering it may make it hard to do that. From what I heard, if you were to fall and are hanging you should have a knife within reach and a cell phone if possible. I just see a coat covering up your vest being in the way and could possibly hinder a quick escape out of the situation.

[/ QUOTE ] That is another reason why I don't like wearing a harness under clothes. Wisconsin requires blaze orange for gun season so that is why I will probably exchange mine. I was impressed the first time I put mine on!
Chrud
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I emailed HSS and the gal that emailed me back said the reversible vest is designed so that no orange is visible when worn camo-side out. So, I think I'll exchange mine. We'll see.

I don't worry too much though Chrud, I have shot more deer standing in blaze orange less than 25 yards away, than I have in full camo. I shot a 9 point at less than 15 yards in full blaze orange coat. It never knew I was there.

I have the one that is NOT reversible. If I need blaze orange, I just put on a light fleece vest from Cabela's.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I use the recommended screw-in step as an additional safety in case I were to fall. I put in the screw-in step just below my seat, to the side. If I were to fall, at least I'd have something to put my foot on to take the pressure off. Chrud
Re: Hunter Safety System Users Thats a neat idea. I put the tree strap up really high so if I were to fall, I would only fall about 4".
Mach1
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I've got the reversible model and when bowhunting, wear my Scentlok top over it. When gun hunting, I wear the blaze side out if not wearing my heavy coat. In that case I wear it underneath the coat with an orange vest on the outside. I hate wearing the HSS vest over the top of bulky clothing because it's extremely uncomfortable and I'd rather have it a little tighter to my body. [/ QUOTE ] You have to remember this though, if you were in a fall and regain your composure, if you have a bulky jacket on can you get it off and then unhook the vest or cut the strap if needed. Its best to wear the vest outside of clothing, that way if your able to hug the tree and need to shimmer down, it makes it easy to unhook the vest. A coat could really make it hard to get to the releases on the vest. Just an idea......
Chrud
Re: Hunter Safety System Users I would think the HSS would work great to help keep bulky clothing compressed against you better, so there would be less bowstring interference.
