I'm trying to find out what hunters have been experiencing w/ scent control boots. Does anybody think they work? Gimmick? Would I have to keep these boots in the same bag as the rest of my scent-lok gear?

Rubber knee boots are the way to go. Spray them down with some cover scent away before you head into the woods and you'll be golden. Although I have seen some people store their boots in their scent proof bag I don't think it is necessary. You can never bee too scent free though, i guess.

I'm not going to debate on the carbon thing, but my question is, how in the world are you ever going to reactivate/regenerate the boots? Feet generally produce the most stink, so they will be saturated quickly. Not sure rolling them around in a dryer for 45 minutes is practical or will even work.

I'd go with rubber boots.

Plain ole rubber boots....

They are basically all you need. Your scent isnt going to drift through that rubber. A lot of people push them between the cab and bed of their trucks and that keeps them from being tainted. Thats all you need.

IMHO those scent control boots would be a HUGE waste of money.

I hate rubber boots. They have no ankle support (woods are full of things to roll an ankle on) and they're harder to climb a tree in.

I stick with plain ol hunting boots and religously wash them, spray them.

My ankles tend to roll over too if not supported. But I did buy a pair of Cabela's Dura-Trax rubber boots last year. Best fitting rubber boots I have ever owned! So far two years use and they support the ankles just fine!

this is from the Scentblocker web site the part title "u of stink" basically a guide to staying scent free...this is the part of boots

The Boot Conspiracy

Next you must be concerned with your boots. Most writers and many hunters recommend all rubber boots. The problem with rubber boots is that they are a scent factory. Also, they don’t breathe and create a lot of sweat and condensation. And when you walk, they tend to act as a puffer and expel all kinds of odor into the air. Preferably you would use a boot that is a bit more breathable, and with special consideration you can keep these as scent-free as possible. Scrub your boots with our laundry detergent, rinse, and let them dry. Spray the insides thoroughly (and your socks) with Scent Shield®, and spray the outsides, especially the soles, with Carbon Blast, White Lightning, or Fall Blend. Keep these boots in a scent-free container until you hunt, then take them out and get dressed outside your vehicle. Don’t wear your hunting boots in the house, in the vehicle, to the store or the gas station. They are for hunting only. Reapply spray every time you hunt and you can keep your scent trails to a minimum, so much so that deer will typically cross your trail and neither smell you or be alarmed. For the ultimate scent control for your feet, slip them into a pair of ScentBlocker® Sneaky Feet™, where the activated carbon will adsorb any odors coming off your boots while you are on stand.

Also, i have mentioned this a bunch of times, and its not mentioned in the paragraph above, but i have seen Scott Shlultz on the Dream Season tv show and one time he mentioned that most people make the mistake of tucking their pant legs into the rubber boots...he said everytime you take a step it creates a "burping" effect that lets out air/odor...and we all know how much your feet can sweat in rubber boots since there is no vetilation...just a little tip if you decide to go with rubber boots, keep your pant legs on the outside of them wink.gif

I just use a pair of rubber botos and they work just fine..i spray them down on the soles of my feet and i feel confident..works for me

I agree with what he said. I do think that scent control clothing helps control your scent, but I think the boots are a gimmick.

You can create your own scent controlled rubber boots. What I do is I sprinkle unscented powder in my socks before I go into the woods so my feet won't sweat on warm days & I bought a pair of carbon odor eaters from wal mart for 4$. I spray the soles of my boots with scent killer before I start to the stand. That's always worked for me.

I asked our customer service about this point and they told me most manufacturers suggest the Pete's Shoe Dryer or a Blow Dryer. I don't really know about the effectiveness on those.

Personally, I use Scent-Lok socks with the Dr. Scholl's carbon odor eater thing in the bottom. I use a rubber/neoprene boot made by Woody Max made by the Muck Boot Company. They are snug from about the ankle up and prevent the "burping" mentioned above. Always have your pant legs outside of rubber boots.

Re: Scent Control Hunting Boots

Just me but rubber boots are fine for being scent free as long as you don't get foreign scent on the outside of them.

I personally think the scent lok boots are a waste of money. It is just too difficult to reactivate the carbon in them and they certaninly don't work any better than rubber boots. That comes from a guy that owns 3 scent loc camo suits with the extras too.

I pretty much do what SLG Designer does and I'll back him up saying you should wear your scent lok pant legs on the outside of your rubber boots and tie them off with the lower leg ties.

Yes!! Definately put pant legs on the outside of the boots!!

The one thing I see though with boots that have Scent Loc added to them, how do you activate the carbon? The suits, hats, and gloves you toss in a dryer for 30 minutes or so for reactivation. What do you do with boots that are Scent Loc? They'd be too noisey to be tumbling around in a dryer? What do you do?

Nothing beats a good rubber boot!
