BowJoe
Has everyone else had a season full of almost so far like me? I've been out 3 times this past week since the start of the season on Sunday and all 3 times, I've had nothing but almost's. On opening morning, I almost had a shot at a doe with a fawn but the saplings and trees got in the way. The closest she came was 25 yards and the furthest, quartering to me shot was at 40 yds. Oddly enough, I was more relaxed with a 40 yd shot than I was up close. She never presented and I almost had a shot at her. A few nights later, I almost had a small buck in the proverbial bag. It was almost an hour till dark and I had been getting antsy cause I knew the deer were getting ready to move any minute. Out of nowhere, a small 6 or 8 point buck about 2 1/2 came walking right in front of my stand at about 25 yds broadside. When I drew and was prepared to stop him, I noticed my bow was touching one of those big vines that hangs from a treetop. I tried to move around it but just couldn't. I had to let him walk on through and hope he stopped in an opening. I let him get to the last opening before he made the field and grunted loud to stop him. He stopped right where I needed him and I settled my pin behind the shoulder and concentrated on making the shot (that's been my big problem). I touched the realease and sent what I thought was a dead on shot straight to both lungs. Mother nature had other plans and put a twig or branch right in my way just as I shot. I saw it move. LOL. The result was a clean arrow with one extremely jacked up Wasp Jak hammer. That thing is mangled. Broke off one blade and put 10 bends in one of the others. Not even a spec of dirt on the blades. Last night was pretty good too but man was it frustrating. I saw eight deer with 2 of them being bucks. I had a doe and then a small buck getting about 6 yards from being in the wide open and then another doe a few mins later came out as far as to show her head and that's it. She then trotted back in the woods and I just kept hearing them laughing at me. Frustrating to say the least but overall rewarding as long as I see deer. Just a usual night for me. I just want some backstraps and a few roasts or some jerky. Hungry for some meat. I'll post some pics of that broadhead soon. Good luck everyon. VTbowman
Re: Full of Almost. Give me the weekend and I can tell you then. Our starts in the morning. I expect pretty much the same as you. LOL Seems they always know what your comfortable shooting ranges are, dont they?
