Re: Occupation

Well Im a professional fisher/ hunter but thats very seasonal so I have to supplement my income with a full time job. wink.gif

I have a degree in Architectural Drafting and Design (not a full blown architect). I run AutoCad everyday. I do a lot of plans on the side such as houses, businesses, and currently my first jail. My full time job is design for Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings (Commercial Construction). I do a lot of plans, design, and construction management. I also started back to college several years and Im a part time college student. Im working toward a BA in Civil Engineering. I though about changing and getting a BA in Architecture but I have since decided Civil Engineering is good money with a lot less work and headache.

Re: Occupation

I was a logger for 11 years

a salmon fisherman (troller) for 7 years

Dept of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for 5 years

And now I have my own painting business. I've painter for about 13 to 14 years and have had my own business for 3 years. I've been working 7 days a week for the past 21/2 to 3 months and am getting burned out bad. I haven't even had time (or energy) to pick up my bow yet.

I got bursitis in one knee, bad back, bad rotator cup in left shoulder, bad ankle, but I'm still slugging it out.

I will be the happiest hunter in the woods, when I can finally go out and sit in my treestand, and enjoy the calmness....aah the calm crazy.gif

Re: Occupation

Right you are, Tominator - having a peek at members' profiles is interesting and educational. grin.gif

But seeing the variety of occupations here is cool, too.

-High School Teacher, mostly Math and Sciences.

-Have also been geologist, farmer, and realtor- some of these categories concurrently.

Re: Occupation

Slb, right now im taking all of the classes I can at a small local college, Rogers State University (named after Will, he was a local). After I finish up a few classes I have to transfer to OSU. They have a Tulsa branch where I can finish my degree. Im not sure how many hours I have left because I have jumped back and fourth between engineering and architecture. I still have to get with my adviser to find out how many more hours I have. I need to finish some classes before I transfer and get the list of what I have left. My first class in OSU will be Dynamics, geee I can wait! laugh.gif They did say with my background I could clep out of some classes such as Design with AutoCad (or something to that effect).

CJ, thanks. Luckily this is a very small jail. It has 4 cells and a bunch of offices. There isn't anything electrical (other than basic power) so it is a lot like a house/ business plan. It should be pretty easy with the exception of the reinforced concrete details and such.

Re: Occupation

Oh Mike dont get me wrong. I know engineers work hard. I deal with them on a daily basis. I also deal with Architects a lot and your right, for the most part they are clueless. They do have to put up with a lot of PR junk, codes, and such that I really dont want to dabble with. Id rather just run my Calcs and go on. From the working experience that Ive had doing this for 8-9 years, I respect the engineers a lot more.
