Blinds-venting?

Have noticed a kind of odor in our blind when you first open the door, not real strong, just a bit of a maybe a stale like smell. With the wasps this time of year and the likelihood of high winds with blowing rain I prefer to keep the windows closed. It has carpet, and is for the most part dry inside, but think some moisture could have blown in around the edges and when the windows stay closed overnight they do sometimes get some moisture on them. Really should not be a problem, but last night with a good steady 15-20 mph north and swirling wind I had a doe come out on my south side and she looked dircetly into the blind at me with the windows open on all sides except the north. Kind of figured she was smelling the smell from inside the blind and likely not smelling me. The doe hung around for a good while and fed, but she definitely knew something was not right.

Am now considering trying to somehow vent the blind to prevent there from being any stale or lingering odors with some sort of vent with screens, would this be a good idea, thoughts anyone?

Re: Blinds-venting?

I have seen some kits advertised which consist of 4" corragated pipe similar to drainage pipe. This pipe enters the top of the blind and goes up to a tree or whatever to carry scent up and away. Maybe this is effective, I don't know. I would worry about the noise as the pipe is bound to move around in the wind.

I rely on some apple scented air freshners mostly.

I have thought about installing a couple gable type vents in my blind just to keep a little airflow going. You could devise a cover to install when you are in the blind. It might cure some of the musty odor.

How about trying a roof vent? This way it wouldn't leak and it would suck out any odor that would be in the blind!

Thanks guys. Kind of what I was thinking Orlan. Was going to look at lowes yesterday for some type of vent, but with the kids with me forgot some of what I went to get and that was one of the things on my list. Will try some scent away next time I get back there for now.

My, my how times have changed! I can remember not so many years ago, getting up in the middle of the night and traveling to my hunting area for the days hunt, or packing in for the weekend with a tent and all the supplies needed. Now we are trying to figure out how to vent a blind. LOL! grin.gif

If anyone runs across a solar powered de-humidifier please let me know!

LOL. Could use an inverter and a auto or marine battery, with a solar panel charger affixed to the roof. Of course then you could power a coffee maker, electric blanket, and any other small appliances you think you need crazy.giflaugh.gif.

Think I may have my dilemma with the blind figured out, just have to decide if it is going to better to put the vents up higher or down low, or maybe one high and one low on each side. Thinking I need to go as high as possible with one on each side to get cross air flow and some ventilation.
