Blood on the tailgate....

The Hoyt Trykon is 1 for 1 right now. I was fortunate enough to take a mature doe this morning.

With the full moon, I was thinking deer movement would be minimal. Boy, was I wrong.

I didn't need the flashlight to get to the woods because of the moonlight, which was very cool. Shadows being cast into the darkness is really neat to see. Once I got to the wood line, I needed the flashlight as I moved through the woods, because all the leaves still on the trees blocking out the moon light. Immediately I could hear deer running through the woods that I had bumped. I hate to hear something like that, but what are you going to do? Back out and leave? Nope. Just continue on and hope you don't spook them too bad. I must have bumped 4-6 deer on the walk in.

Once I got set up and all together, things were very quiet. The occasional squirrel would make some noise running through the dry leaves. It wasn't until 7:45am until I saw my first deer from stand. A smallish doe made her way up the hill about 50 yards away, and ended up right behind me, on the neighbors property. She's safe.

Two small 4 point bucks came through next, about 8:20am. 15 yards away, right in one of my shooting lanes....why couldn't you guys have been does or a big buck? I watched as the slowly moved off, down the hill into the corn.

At about 8:50am, I spotted movement coming up the hill towards me. I stood up and got my bow ready. A big doe with triplets came into view. She cut my trail that I used on the way in, and paused. She put her nose into the air and knew something wasn't quite right. She back-tracked about 15 yards and moved down the hill. I thought she was going to make a loop around me, when she made the turn and came right in. At 20 yards, I grunted with my mouth to stop her, already at full draw, I settled the pin and let the Easton fly. It found it's make, and after 70 yards, she did the cartwheel and fell to rest. cool.gif After slapping myself high five, I put the bow back on the hanger and decided to give it a few minutes before getting down the recover her.

After 10 minutes, a button buck came right up to me. He had very visible buttons from 40 yards away. He came right in under my stand, and I noticed he had a growth right on top the middle of his head. It looked like a huge mole, maybe 2" in diameter. Very weird, but it didn't seem to affect him any. He moved down the hill and into the corn as well. I got my gear together and climbed down to my doe. Very nice sized doe, with a big old snout. I dropped her off at the butchers shop, since it was a little warm in the mid day and I had prior commitments to attend to.

Her she is, sorry for the long story. A very exciting day in the deer woods for sure.
