Swamphunter
I have a 2001 Arctic Cat 500 4X4, and the battery has been getting weak. I got on it today with my daughter and headed about 2 miles up the road figuring since it had started right up, it would be fine. All of a sudden the four wheeler lost all power and quit. I went to turn it over and it turned over a little bit but I knew the batrtery was shot. I went to pull start it but due to a badly pulled muscle in my forearm, I had too much pain to get it started. I sat and waited about 2 or 3 minutes, turned the key on and it turned over for a few seconds, fired and then ran. We rode right back to the house with no further problems. Would the battery cause the 4 wheeler to shut down while we are tooling along at 20 miles per hour, or could it be something else? I am replacing the battery tomorrow, but thought that once it was running, it didn't matter the strength of the battery. Thanks
Guest buckmaster2010
Re: Help with 4 wheeler it could be with the fuel pressure because mine shut down like that. altough a battery cable could be shorted so a certain movement could have jared it
Swamphunter
Re: Help with 4 wheeler I will check the cabels, but I am pretty sure it is all battery related.

Guest IL_HuNtIn_KiD
Re: Help with 4 wheeler id say its prolly something with the wiring between ur battery and the main computer...if it just shut down outta the blue then u let it sit and it was fine..i would have the wireing checked out
Guest gpshemi
Re: Help with 4 wheeler The battery might have developed a short too. That will make them goofy. I'd start by checking the cables and buying a new battery. If it's the original battery you got your moneys worth anyway.
wtnhunt
Re: Help with 4 wheeler Weak battery could potentially cause several electrical problems Ken. The mechanic that used to work on my honda strongly suggested using only the right batteries for your bikes. He said the cheap wal mart batteries and otehrs do not put out enough amperage and could end up frying things like the fuel pump, fuel relays, starters, and other electrical components. Too bad he told me this after my fuel pump and starter got fried on my old 350.
VTbowman
Re: Help with 4 wheeler Sounds like a loose battery cable. Or something in the wiring from your battery to your starter/engine. (Not familiar with your atvs wiring) When things heat up they can expand/move and cause a short or become disconnected tempararily. Once it stpped and cooled a bit it re-made the connection. Vibration from riding/engine can cause it to go in and out too. Your fuse holder could be cruddy too. (I had this happen to me once.) Definately replace the battery if you think its weak. At least eliminate that issue. Good Luck.
Elk_Hunter
Re: Help with 4 wheeler id have to agree with most other people and say it is either a batter cable or another wire that is loose
