Guest Andrea
Re: Talladega: TRASHY [ QUOTE ] Andrea, I apologize. My comments were not meant to be directed at you or anyone else in particular just a generalized statement. Come on up to the Moss-Thornton Tower. The crowd up there seems pretty laid back [/ QUOTE ] No problem.
Chrud
Re: Talladega: TRASHY If your kids enjoyed the racing part of the day then I would suggest taking them to local dirt tracks. I prefer dirt much more than asphalt for racing. 90% of the folks that go to those races are just there for the enjoyment. They cheer for their driver but aren't so aggressive towards others. However, I wouldn't allow your kids to go in the pits during the race if you want to keep them from hearing cuss words.
Nick
Re: Talladega: TRASHY How quickly we foreget about when Junior did the same thing to Carl Edwards at Michigan during a Busch race. I didnt hear anybody cheering for him with that win.....I guess everybody at Michigan is a Carl Edwards fan. This type of reaction from the crowd has nothing to do with who the driver that was wrecked was. People dont pay that type of money to see crap like that....they want to see a race. I can recall a few other times the crowd had the same type of reaction and it were two entirely different drivers involved. I would have definately been ticked if i paid to see that race.....but the beer bottle throwing is uncalled for. The track should ban glass bottles like they do at Michigan.....Then they wont have anything to throw......its kinda hard to throw a can. slugshooter
Re: Talladega: TRASHY [ QUOTE ] The least they can do is employ some sort of security or law enforcement like other venues do. And eject those idiots that wanna fight and throw their booze. [/ QUOTE ] I'm pretty sure they do, but when you have attendance of 150K + it is hard to be everywhere at once. I don't know of any track that allows glass bottles, and if there were some in the stands, they were most likely snuck in, as far as coolers, I thought all coolers had been banned from races since 9/11. I haven't been to a race since '04 so things might have changed. Unfortunately, a few bad apples spoils the whole bunch. It just seems like whenever stuff gets thrown on the track en masse, it always seems to be after the rave wasn't handed to Junior because of his name. When I go to a race, I go to enjoy myself. There may be some light hearted ribbing between fans now and then, but I usually ignore the idiots. Out of the 10 or so races I have attended in my life, the fans who gave me the most problems and did their best to show their ****, were fans of 2 drivers whose last name started with an E. flyrod64
Re: Talladega: TRASHY Andrea, I go to Charlotte every year for the winston and have never had that kind of trouble. I usually take 2 of my grandkids when I go. I am surrounded by fans of about every driver, some like me have had the same seats forever, and we always rag each other about the drivers but in good fun. Also at LMS, the coolers are checked when you go through the gate and I have yet to see any glass bottles where I sit. There are always gonna be the (drunks) here and there that mess things up. I expierenced that from youth league sports to adult sofball to professional sports. Please don't let an unruly group ruin your taste for the sport. Atleast try a different section next time and give it one more shot!
Ravin R10 man
Re: Talladega: TRASHY It only takes a few poorly behaving fans that cant accept losing...Plus the "hockey" mentality(fighting/poor conduct), that seems to have been accepted in this country and we see that in almost every sport theses days..people cant even win and not destroy, loot and burn property anymore!! And if this was ol No. 3 did what Vickers did which he was famous for....WELL!!!.....The fans woulda just said.."THATS RACIN"!!!!

Guest Andrea
Re: Talladega: TRASHY Apparently at Talladega you can just about do whatever you want. Coolers ARE allowed and it's always been BYOB. Glass included. Check out their website. Regardless of who threw what and who they were cheering for or NOT cheering for..........I deem that behavior unacceptable. I always get mad when people stereotype us southerners as hillbilly rednecks, but if Talladega is viewed as a representative of what folks are like down here.....I can see where people get that idea. 98chevy
Re: Talladega: TRASHY I live 30 min from dega. Ive been to many races but we get box/tower seats threw my dads work. I hate some of the people there. I promise these are not normal alabama people. some of these beer slingers come out for the race and then dissapear for the rest of the year. Steven
Re: Talladega: TRASHY [ QUOTE ] all I heard was how horrible the people were and how soaked they got from all the beer flying around. They started chunking beer bottles. My son even said "Mom, there were people walking around with blood running down the sides of their faces from the glass". The cursing and the alcohol was appalling. [/ QUOTE ] And, this surprises you because? It is NASCAR after all.

No, seriously, I think it's just sad that you can't take your children to a sporting even without having to deal with this sorta crap. SUGARKAHNE
Re: Talladega: TRASHY I have been to several Busch races and they've usually been pretty low-key, except for the last time I went a couple years ago. The people behind us were cussing constantly and one of them spilled beer on me. I haven't been back since. They have family sections at some of the dirt tracks where no drinking is allowed. I think Nascar tracks should have that too.
BowJoe
Re: Talladega: TRASHY [ QUOTE ] That's why you'll never see me at Talladega. Not all races are like that Andrea, trust me. My buddy at work told me that on Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain Sunday night, all it was was Jr. fans calling up saying Vickers and HMS should be banned from the sport, and that everyone should move out of the way for Junior. Junior is not the end-all, be-all of NASCAR, its just sad that too mnay people live and breath on what happens to him on Sunday. [/ QUOTE ] You mean like how you do for Gordon? BowJoe
Re: Talladega: TRASHY [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] It is true that Jr has quite a large fan base at 'dega. I mean they don't call it Dale'edega for nothing. However, I take a little offense at ALL of the Jr. fans being lumped into the beer drinking, bottle chunking crowd. I was at Talledega this spring when Jr. got spun by Carl Edwards. Neither me nor my wife cussed, threw a beer bottle, or berated a Carl Edwards fan sitting near us. It is safe to say that when you get 150,000 people in one place there will be several bad apples in the bunch but please don't group all of the Jr. fans into that. Andrea, I hope that the speedway replies to you if nothing else maybe they will eliminate coolers or glass bottles from the grandstands. I renewed my spring race seats and I will be back next year with bells on. [/ QUOTE ] I only said that the group surrounding my kids were Jr. fans. I know that not all people are like that. My in-laws certainly are not and they go all the time. If NASCAR replies I will be surprised. But, you never know............. The least they can do is employ some sort of security or law enforcement like other venues do. And eject those idiots that wanna fight and throw their booze. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah but one bad comment about a driver as popular as Jr. and everyone who doesn't like the fact that their driver isn't nearly as popular puts their 2 cents in about it being Jr.'s fault because that's the kind of fans he has. I love watching Jr. race and even though he got screwed at the end of the race, he still just nodded and smiled. But I guess that makes him a bad guy too because it was afterall Budweiser bottles being thrown. Sorry that happened to your kids and family but stuff like that sometimes happens and the NFL is no exception. Remember the Brown's game a few years back? Remember the players that get pelted by snowballs every year? I know more than one fight breaks out at every football game and large event where thousands of people gather. That's the risk you take when you expose your children to places that serve Alcohol. It's the people that can't handle their comsumption that make others look bad.
