I just got an HSS safety vest

I can't tell you how much better it is to hunt with my safety vest on... I usually climb 10 feet with my climber and leave it at that, but now I'm a little more daring. On saturday i climbed 15 feet with no worries.

Just the ease of knowing I have some extra protection builds a bit of confidence that used to consume my thoughts when hunting. Always worried about falling from a stand is no way to spend a day in the woods.

I didn't like the harnesses given with my treestands since they were extremely cumbersome but this one is great. I love it.

I don't think so, when you think of the alternative, the extra weight is nothing. Get the mesh one if you want, its got to be lighter. They are simple to put on!!

Yeah I agree they are simple to put on and better than nothing. But for the price and weight...I'll stick to a belt or harness for now.

thats great its a possible life saver. had a guy last week in my hunting area climb up the tree around 6 o,clock in the moring with a hss vest on but did,nt have time to strap in and fell out he layed there till 10:30 a.m. had to helicopter him out can only move arms and neck.... Strapped in 100% its the only way to be even when climbing up

Anyone think these things are heavy? I've been kicking it around on getting one...then tried one on...wow, I thought it was heavy! Esp. for warm weather and light gear.

once you get your clothing on and then the vest, it isn't noticable. i bought the tree stalker b4 season and been using it now for 2 weeks and love it. i can't say enough about it to justify how good they are.

Didn't have time to strap in? That is sad, I strap in before I even think of pulling my bow up to me. If you don't strap in what is the point?!!

Hope he is better soon and glad is alive, I am sure now he will preach safety.

And snapper, as for price of an HSS, hard to put a price of what could happen.....Some guys blow tons on gear and skimp and go cheap on safety equipment. I'd rather shoot a cheap bow with cheap arrows and cheap broadheads than to skimp on safety gear because if I fall all the expensive stuff I have will mean nothing!! The HSS are more of investments and really are not that expensive compared to hospital bills or funeral costs!

Re: I just got an HSS safety vest

I was comparing the price of the HSS to a regular belt and/or harness. Not bows, hospital bills or funeral.

Re-read my last post...I agreed its better than nothing...but, for the price...I'll stick to my harness.

I'm surprised that I'm the only one who thinks this thing is heavy and pricey. I feel they are marketing emotions. Lets face it...its a vest with a couple seat belts sewn in...how is that worth over $100? And, the thing weighs more than my archery hunting clothes combined.

Not putting the product down...I'm sure it would work well and prob. will and/or has already saved lives. I'm just pointing out the few things I don't like about it.

Re: I just got an HSS safety vest

You have to look at the features Gregg, it has simple seat belt style leg straps, that adds to the weight but the vest makes it easier to put on instead of a tangled web of straps that sometimes are the reasons guys don't wear a harness. The vest goes on simple, has pockets on it to store thing too. The Pro series have deer drags built into them too as well as grunt tube holders. It was well thought out too.

Marketing emotions or not from watching their commericials with celebrity hunter endorsements if it makes someone say "their right, my family is counting on me to come home" and "don't let your first hunt be your last" then I am all for it.

Its a great vest and maybe its pricey but if guys are buying them and wearing them then HSS has made its point!!
