Re: Megaduck Challenge

This thing is so bad that many of it's corporate sponsors including RealTree are pulling out. Macks Prairie Wings has a statement on their website disassociating themselves from Megaduck. They also apologized for including Columbia Sportswear as a sponsor.

Here's the statement from Macks:

MACK'S CANCELED THEIR AFFILIATION WITH THE MEGADUCK CHALLENGE

After further consultation with U.S. Department of the Interior regarding potential negative ramifications, Mack's Prairie Wings, Realtree and Remington are withdrawing any further support to the National Waterfowlers' Registry's MegaDuck Challenge event. Please note that Columbia Sportswear had not approved the use of its name or logo, and at no time did they offer or give any support to this promotion. We apologize to Columbia for this error.

We have officially canceled any association with the NWR-MegaDuck offer and will not offer any means for registration. We extend a sincere apology to those we have offended. We will continue to demonstrate our strong commitment to all of our valued customers and friends in the field.

Thank you,

Deena Fisher

If you read the details of the contest the odds of shooting a winning duck are atrocious. They are banding several ducks in each of the four flyways with individual code numbers. Then after the birds are realeased they will decide which four numbers (presumably one in each flyway) will be worth $250,000 each. So first you have to shoot a duck with a Megaduck band, then you have to beat the odds that the one you shot is one of the four who's number was selected to be the quarter million dollar "MegaDuck." The only way you could win a million in this contest is to shoot all four of the selected birds.

Thank You RealTree for withdrawing your support of this abomination!!

This is not the right way to go about luring people back into hunting.

Re: Megaduck Challenge

A visit to the National Waterfowlers' Registry's website indicates that they fell under so much pressure that they took the childish low-road and "took their ball and went home." Here's the only thing you find on their website that appeared to once have a great deal of information.

NOTICE

It has been made clear to us that our ability to obtain the needed information through the Freedom of Information Act may be hindered by those that hold the power to do so. What this means in regard to the FOIA and our abilities as citizens to access data through it remains very unclear.

Therefore, we regret to inform you that effective immediately the $1,000,000 MEGADUCK CHALLENGE event is canceled. All memberships will be refunded in full and no prizes will be awarded.

We appreciate the support of the many who heard the truth of what we were attempting to do. We encourage all our fellow waterfowlers to participate in selective harvest, to bring new hunters into the sport and to abide by the laws set forth to govern the tradition we all share.

Re: Megaduck Challenge

All I can say was they were thinking of banding some snow geese seeing there #'s are so high with a million doller band, in my opinion all that would do is get more people shooting them and leaving then becouse not many like to eat them! I am a strong believer in what you kill you use, either eat it or use the hide, I think things like this would just make the "killing" more ok and there will be lots of waste! I know [peopel now who just kill ducks for the killing and waste the meat, if there was a chance at a million or even 250 thousand there would be lots more !!!
