magnatecsteve
Re: The Longbow connects (pic) WOW That is awesome! I have been practicing with my recurve and longbow both. I'm shooting better with the recurve now, but I love both. Are you shooting Gold Tip carbons there? Did you add weight tubes? I'm still trying to get the right spined arrow for the longbow. (Howard Hill Big 5 60#) Congrats again, that's quite an accomplishment there!

njbowhntr
Re: The Longbow connects (pic) Well I know this is a bit late, but I never did add the story: I got up in the tree about 4:30, sunset was 6:30. At about 5:15 I had my spike come in, I see him everyday. He slowly worked his way from apple tree to apple tree browsing. At about 6:30 I had the spike's brother come out into the field for some dinner. About 5 minutes after he walked out the two bucks kept looking into the corner above my stand. And next thing I see is the 6-ptr poke his head out from the headrow. It took him about 2-3 minutes to make his way to the base of my tree, I have the best apples. Once under me I waited for the broadside shot. As he came to broadside I drew back. I think the 3-ptr saw me move, so he jumped. When I released the arrow the 6-ptr jumped also. When he jumped he actually turn quartering away from me. The arrow buried behind the rib cage and went into his opposite front shoulder. When he ran off it looked as though I made a bad shoot due the where I saw the fletching on his body. I ended up easing out of the stand and going back up at 5am before work. Well he only went about 50 yards before piling up into a tree.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, I am shooting Gold Tip Arrows. I shot 5575 @ 29.5" topped with 125 G5 Montec's. I did not add any weight to the arrows. I did add a set of the small Limbsavers to the limbs of the bow though.
magnatecsteve
Re: The Longbow connects (pic) Did you try alot of different arrows before settling with the GT's? I'm having a harder time getting a good arrow for my longbow.

The 100's were kinda erractic with alot of handshock.
njbowhntr
Re: The Longbow connects (pic) Here is another pic of his antlers. If you look close at his left side base, he started to grow a second main beam.

VTbowman
Re: The Longbow connects (pic) Nice buck for sure. I love to hear it when someone gets them with trad equipment. I went at it for a couple years but frustrated myself and went back to compounds. I still have an old recurve set up if the mood ever strikes me again. Congrats!
