wtnhunt
Fall planting seems to do best here around mid to late Sept. Tried full draw here and the deer would not touch the stuff. Our rackmaster clover we planted last fall has been staying mowed down by the deer this fall. The grower plot we planted in the spring has come on really nicely since we started getting rain this fall. Was afraid we lost the acre of trefoil and clover to the drought back this summer, but it has recovered very well and the deer are hitting it pretty heavy now too. I would not recommend biologic seeds. I am sold on pennington rackmaster seed blends and hamannfarms seeds.
BuckNrut
Re: Full Draw Plantings?? Regarding Imperial - yes I've tried to grow it in an area that should support the stuff (moist). This was along a creek. I think we had too much rain this spring and nothing came of it.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Full Draw Plantings?? I DIDN'T GET VERY GOOD RESULTS FROM BIOLOGIC EITHER.I PLANTED OATS THIS YEAR AND THEY GREW GOOD AND DEER SEEM TO LIKE IT,BUT NOW IT'S TURNING PRETTY BROWN FROM THE COOLER TEMP.I MIGHT TRY SOMETHING NEW NEXT YEAR. FSU_Seminole
Re: Full Draw Plantings?? I've heard nothing but bad things about Full Draw. If I'm not mistaken its that stuff you can buy at Wal Mart for pretty cheap. I haven't heard a single personal success story from it. The imperial clover is suppose to be pretty good. I've planted no plow last year & this year. I won't be planting it again because their brassica is bitter until a hard freeze comes. It was 77 yesterday & 72 today. The deer haven't touched it & I've had it planted since Oct 1st.
dogdoc
Re: Full Draw Plantings?? I have also planted full draw before--it came up great but the deer didn't touch the blend of brassicas it has. If you want the best fall blend money can buy check out the fall blend from Hamann Farms www.hamannfarms.com I planted it over a year ago--the chicory, clover, and trefoil are doing great and the deer are hammering right now. I killed a really nice 8 pointer this season and big gobbler on it last spring todd
RangerClay
Re: Full Draw Plantings?? Planted some full draw in late Aug. Turkeys ate every bit of it before it had a chance to grow. I'll stick with my alsike clover. It's the first to come and the last to go plus the deer always keep it mowed for me.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Full Draw Plantings?? Always a day late and a dollar short! I was just in Wal-mart yesterday morning and saw they had all their seed blends marked down 50%, so I thought "what the hey" and bought two bags of Full Draw. At least I only spent about $10.
