12 gauge barrel twist rate

my remington 11-87 has a twist rate of 1-35. I was reading yesterday that the newer sabots like the 2 3/4 hornady sst, federals, winchesters, remington core-lock have better groups with a barrel twist rate of 1-28.After trying some of the I was not able to get a good group

I'm not going to run out and buy a new barrel. Do you think the twist rate makes a difference?

It can, but that short of a bullet should be stabilized by the majority of slug guns. The BRI slugs were long also and many guns shoot them just fine. Maybe the guns did not like them. Not every gun likes the same ammo.
