Got a spike

Well After a long hard week of hunting I came home with some great memories and a spike. There was some bad weather and the deer just were not moving until the last two days. I shot a spike the first day and could not find him until 5 days later when i smelled him. The buzzards and coyotees ate well. Not much left for the flys. I did take another spike the second to last day. He weighed 125 field dressed and I shot him from my new ladder stand.

It was a 30 yard shot and hit him in the shoulder. As he ran across the cut corn field, I kept saying go down and after 80 yard dash he expired. I though he was a big doe but when i got there he was a small spike. I had a great time logged some time in the woods. Hunted sun up to sun down for 6 and a half days. I missed a nice 6 pointer on the last day, nerves I think. Well I still had a great time and will go back in novmber for another try. Gotta say thanks to my dad for all he does. laugh.gif

Re: Got a spike

I thought Florida deer were all about the size of a german shepard.....lol. For a spike, that deer appears to have some pretty good body size.

By the way, what's it like to deer hunt in snake country. About the only way you could get me to hunt the south country is if I could find some snake-bite boots that zip up over my head. I hate snakes!!! I don't think I would ever see a deer since I would be walking around staring at the ground....ha-ha. I know.....what a wuss!

Anyway, you done good. Congratulations!

Doc

Re: Got a spike

Congratulations on the spike!!! cool.gif

And I don't worry at all about snakes when I hunt. By the time gun season starts it's too cold for them to be out anyway. grin.gif

When you're raised here you learn to live with it. When I fish I keep an eye out but I would never let a snake keep me from what I love. Ever. wink.gif That's what a shotgun's for. grin.gif
