Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Just don't put it back in your mouth to moisten it, LOL
Guest Xen
Re: Cleaning with spit? i use windex, some people mix a little rubbing alcohol with windex... i know jeff foxworthy made a joke about a mother's spit having the same chemical composition as formula 409. but I really doubt the cleaning properties of saliva - i'd stick with windex
HarvDog
Re: Cleaning with spit? It's called a spit-patch. I was taught by the best (AJ) to run a spit-patch then a dry-patch through after each shot. Seems to be working out great for me.
too_pointer
Re: Cleaning with spit? I use windex. I also use 777 powder, and I believe the windex does alot better job with that powder than spit will. If your a pyrodex user, the "ole " spit might be fine LOL. too_pointer
AJ
Re: Cleaning with spit? Yep, I just use the spit (covered) patch, followed by a dry patch and all is well.
tedicast
Re: Cleaning with spit? I use windex . Everytime I smell windex it reminds me of being at the range!!! I have tried a spit patch, and it doesn't seen to break up the 777 crud ring. for me windex works better.
magnatecsteve
Re: Cleaning with spit? I use spit when cleaning, it does work well with GEOX powder. I don't know about the others since I can't use them with a flintlock. I NEVER use a harsh cleaner on my barrels anyway since they have been cured. lil hunter
Re: Cleaning with spit? I use to use spit, still do sometimes. But when it's 90 degrees outside, i don't like lickin cotton. Your mouth gets dryer than the dessert.
VTbowman
Re: Cleaning with spit? Yes I too have started using the "spit patch and dry patch" between shots and it works great. I would not say it cleans as good as a cleaner would though. My ML likes a semi fouled barrel to get accurate groups at 100 yards. The spit patch does remove a bunch and the dry patch mops up the loose stuff left behind. But if I were to run another clean patch down I would still get residue. Squeeky clean barrel and its all over the place. The good thing is that out in the field, the spit is readally available. I normally do not carry my cleaning kit, nor a bottle of Windex out with me hunting. LOL I assume thats how it came about. It definately works better then just a dry patch or one with water on it.
