VermontHunter
I went and did a job on my sciatic nerve Friday at work,,,, It's really kept me from my computer and posting, and if it doesn't straightened out before Wed. my flight to Colorado should be a joy.... Anyone got any tips other than heat and Ice pacs and streaching??? I've been taking ibuprofen but that only seems to dull the pain for a bit... Man this sucks,,,, always has to happen just as you begin Vacation..

Guest HaDeRonDa
Re: Sciatic Nerve I seem to have the problem every few years. For me I tend to have a problem when I have not stayed as flexible as I should be staying. I don't do the Chiro but I do do hot followed by cold showers. 2 minutes hot all bent over followed by a minute cold. It increased blood flow and seems to help. High end athletes have used this method in the past with great success.
mike
Re: Sciatic Nerve i am a firm believer in the chiropractor!! well it helps my step dad is one! LOL i have a buddy with the same probs freqeuntly and he goes to the chiro frequently and he says it helps. you could always go to the doc for some musle relaxers or maybe some stronger anti inflamitory. when my knees act up i find that aleeve seems to work better for me
VermontHunter
Re: Sciatic Nerve We could have done without the spinal cord graphic Gary..... My fear of seeing a doctor , is that he'll want me to cancel my trip and thats just not going to happen, and I definately don't need a Chrio cranking me out of even more shape so I can't move at all..... Im not too bad if I can move around some,, it when I become too stationary thats the big problem... Guess I'll just have too tuff it out like always... GWSmith
Re: Sciatic Nerve They dont "Crank You Out of Shape" as you put it. They do re-align your vertebrae so that your muscles can work the way their supposed to. On just about a 4-5 year basis I end up having trouble between my T-1 and T-2 vertebrae. For whatever reason I'll lift something and that area reacts. The result is a pinched nerve and spasms in the surrounding muscles. To the point of only being able to take short shallow breathes. I mentioned the Chiropractor because when I end up having to go and get "Adjusted" there is instant relief. Full breathing resumes and only sore back muscles that last 1 day...then it feels like nothing ever happened without ever having to use any drugs. I did try to "Tough it Out" one time for 3 weeks. That time after finally going to the Chiropractor my breathing resumed to normal immediately but it took 2-1/2 days for my muscles to stop hurting. buckee
Re: Sciatic Nerve Chiro's do help. Sometimes you feel better after the first visit, sometimes it takes a few to get it straightened out. My back has been giving me fits lately too, along with the leg pains. Tell ya what Luke...you lean on me, and I'll lean on you and we'll be just fine Try some light exorcising over the next couple of days. Click on the different links and do some of these exorcises, but if it hurts too much, stop. Don't try to exorcise past your pain point. http://www.spine-health.com/topics/conserv/sciaex/sciaex01.html

tallone
Re: Sciatic Nerve I don't know what kind of stretching you do but try this. Lay on your back and bring one knee up to your chest then grab it and try to pull it across your chest keeping your back flat on the floor you should feel your hip stretching and burning in the socket a little if your doing it right hold it for a while then switch to the other. I had problems with mine and went to rehab for it and this was the most effective exercise they had me do.
Guest Andrea
Re: Sciatic Nerve Been having pretty bad back pains lately too Luke. I think I injured it when I went fishing in the Gulf. THe waves were pretty rough and the boat was taking a beating. It's very hard to sit still for long periods of time. But there is something you can do. And going to the chiropractor is one of them. Go to one that practices decompression. My mother said it's done wonders for her back. She said it's very subtle and it's not like he's cranking on your spine at all. Of course, it takes a few visits so you may not have time before your flight. Hope your trip isn't ruined buddy.

Andrea, this isn't going to ruin my trip because I aint going to let it,,, it may limit what I can do, but definately won't be stopping me from going... Thanks for all of the suggestions folks.... GWSmith
Re: Sciatic Nerve Those will work...I'm fairly sure they are just about the same thing as HandWarmers or any other Heat Pack. BTW...I bought 50 packs of them @ Walmart after the winter last year for $
