WV Opening Day - OMG!!!!!!!

No I didn't kill a deer, saw plenty of does but nothing with horns.

However, late Saturday morning things got very........interesting.

Around 9 some bear hunters decided to let their dogs out near me so I moved on down the ridge. Around 10 I decided to head home and take care of responsibilities there. Just as I reached the top of the ridge I look up to see a bear running at me from about 50 yards away. My first thought was to run screaming like a girl grin.gif. I stood my ground hoping he would see me and turn away (dumb idea, head to toe 3D camo). I started trying to nock an arrow in case I needed to defend myself but it was coming too fast so I ended up standing there with an arrow in my hand and praying.

Finally as it came around a tree I waved my arms and yelled. He slammed on the brakes, made a loud huff and ran over the hill.

After he was gone I stepped off the distance between me and the skidmarks he made in the leaves when he skidded to a halt.........6 steps.

From the time I spotted him to the time he was gone was no more than 20 seconds. In less than 1/2 a minute that bear went from half a football field away to less than 15 feet away.

Be safe out there guys, as I found out yesterday, you just never know what is going to happen and just how quickly it can happen.

Not supposed to be any bears around here. Got a little concerned last night with some coyotes cutting loose really close right after I got down and then hearing movement in the woods all around me with nothing but a bow in my hand and after it was pretty dark.

No bear in west Tenn? Trust me brother, they are there. I used to live in the Murfreesboro area and we had 'em there.

There are bears in Missouri and Arkansas just across the river from us, but there not supposed to be any in this part of Tennessee. Really would not surprise me though if there were some around.
