However, late Saturday morning things got very........interesting. Around 9 some bear hunters decided to let their dogs out near me so I moved on down the ridge. Around 10 I decided to head home and take care of responsibilities there. Just as I reached the top of the ridge I look up to see a bear running at me from about 50 yards away. My first thought was to run screaming like a girl . I stood my ground hoping he would see me and turn away (dumb idea, head to toe 3D camo). I started trying to nock an arrow in case I needed to defend myself but it was coming too fast so I ended up standing there with an arrow in my hand and praying. Finally as it came around a tree I waved my arms and yelled. He slammed on the brakes, made a loud huff and ran over the hill. After he was gone I stepped off the distance between me and the skidmarks he made in the leaves when he skidded to a halt.........6 steps. From the time I spotted him to the time he was gone was no more than 20 seconds. In less than 1/2 a minute that bear went from half a football field away to less than 15 feet away. [/ QUOTE ] There are bears in Missouri and Arkansas just across the river from us, but there not supposed to be any in this part of Tennessee.
