Jeramie Posted October 17, 2006 Report Share Posted October 17, 2006 I have a cheap Marlin .22lr Semi Auto that i use for squirrel and plinking. I had a cheap 4x Bushnell on it for a while and it worked but the clarity had gone to pot. I bought a cheap Tasco 3x9x40 (roughly $30) and topped the rifle. Ive had this same cheap scope on a couple of ML'ers and one Rifle and had a lot of luck with them. In my mind if they can handle the recoil off of a .30-06 they should be sufficent for a little plinking .22lr. Anyway, I cant get this thing to hit zero consistently for NOTHING. I setup at the range and shot off a monopod. I would have it set dead on but as soon as I adjusted the power it would be all over. If I would adjust it back I was on the money. It also seems like it loses zero on a regular basis. If I put 10-rounds out of it about half will be on the mark. This morning I killed a skunk at about 30-35 yards. The first shot (although it was offhand) was on the money but it missed the skunk. I jacked in another shell and from the exact same spot, hammered the skunk. Had I not seen the shots float all over from this rifle I would have chalked this up to shooter error but being I anticipated some float I held steady before shooting to be safe. I know 100% its the scope. Anyone have any ideas? Yeah, ive heard the line about the cheap scope but again, I had the same model on a back up .30-06 and was dead on the money at 100yds, every shot. I know my Rem. 597 .22 was spraying shots all over when shooting Rem. shells, but straightened right out with CCI shells. I dont know why that hasnt crossed my mind! I have changed several times with larger cals to solve that problem! Ill pick more up and see if it changes..... It may indeed be the scope. If you can group at one power setting and it changes or moves the group as the magnification goes up or down, the scope may be mounted improperly causing stress.
