Guest Yooper Posted October 17, 2006 Report Share Posted October 17, 2006 Even though almost only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades I almost was able to get a 6 pt lastnight. I sat till dark and I could still see because I was sitting on the edge of an open field and all of a sudden I see this huge bodied deer walking parallel to me across the field. I then see white antlers forked above his ears. So I pull up my range finder and shoot.......56 yrds, crap, too far. He's still walking across the field so I grab the grunt tube and give him a snort. He stops, looks around and keeps on walking. I grunt again. He stops looks around and turns and it looked like he turned towards me so I was pumped but instead he was walking away. I tried to grunt again and he stopped, looked around, but put his head down and kept walking. If I had been on the other side of the field he would have been 25 yrds away. I thought of switching sides but I think I might just stay where I'm at.......An exciting night to say the least. I hope he comes back. I've had that happen numerous times to me and our season is only 3 weeks old. P.S. Don't forget close also counts in Thermonuclear warfare!!! Timing here is not quite right for getting an aggressive buck to respond to a grunt just yet, but is soon coming. Good luck getting him in closer next time around.
