FIRST WALLHANGER!

Well I just got the pictures all set up on the 10 point i shot Saturday evening at 6:20. It was the first time I had hunted this stand that i put up which is on a bench on a steep ridge. This boy was walking along the ridge ahead of me about 50 yards. I waited till he was behind some trees/brush, gave him a grunt, and he came in on a string. I stopped him at 16 yards and actually spined him with the first shot, although the wound doesnt look high enough to get the vertebrae... is it possible to paralyze a deer by hitting it's shoulder? Anyways, i had to send another arrow through the boiler room, and he was done. This is my first buck with a bow, after hunting for 5 seasons, and by far my biggest buck. I am absolutely pumped about this guy! He's a mainframe 8 with 2 abnormal brow tines. He weighed 190 lbs live, 167 field dressed. What a hunt! By the way, sorry about the blood in the pictures... blush.gif

Re: FIRST WALLHANGER!

First of all, the blood looks GREAT. Second, I read an article a while back about shot placement vs. distance deer travel afterward. That article was about gun shots, but they said that deer hit directly on the shoulderblade often drop unconcious immediately because there is a nerve bundle or something connected to the brain. By the time they are able to wake up, they are usually dead b/c their heart and lungs can't take the shock.

I've shot a few deer with a bow through the shoulder blade and it usually just means a broken arrow, but did have a small deer drop like you are saying. No matter what, looks like a good shot for you, and a wallhanger to prove it!
