30-45 feet

Yeah... wink.gif for rifle or muzzle loader...no doubt height is good. Shooting a bow from that height and (alot of times) extreme angle? Come on. No need to reply...there is no doubt in my mind that you'll come up with a kill story or whatever.

As stated...for rifle and muzzle loader I go as High as I can in that particular tree. (wind permitting as well) But for bow...15 to 18ish. I can tell by the string that I drag the bow up with.

Re: stand hieght???

I like to go 15' up. I use the string I pull my bow up with to determine that height. At that height, I believe you are out of the deers eye sight plane. If you've ever been busted... We all know deer do look up blush.gif I think that is a good height in regards to the plane of the arrow your launching. If you can hit the kill zone standing on your head by all means do it. Just know you can make the shot you before you launch that arrow.

I guess higher can't hurt as far as sight and scent control goes, but it really has to impede your success if you are too high up with a bow. Gun...no problem.

Re: stand hieght???

I usually hunt 15 ft. or on the ground. However, we have a stand on one of the places we hunt that is 10 ft. up in a oak tree that remains brushy year round and we have killed more deer out of that stand than any stand on any place we have ever bowhunted. To me, height doesn't matter, it is cover and timing when to move is important.

Re: stand hieght???

10 ft to the ground...in warm weather i hunt a stand that is 10 ft high but it's on the top of a steep ridgeline....so in some cases im prob. 20 ft but in cold weather since my accident i hunt from the ground....and have taken more deer from the ground than out of the stand....
