jbeck
Re: stand hieght??? situation mostly, my average would be about 16 feet. I've been as high as 25, and as low as 8. Good luck.
tedicast
Re: stand hieght??? Our stands are anywhere from betwenn 15', for our ladders, to around 25" for our hang-ons. With the hang-on our stands are at a height that provides the best cover for us.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: stand hieght??? I try to get 12-15 feet up. Depends on the tree, terrain, and brush below. I have stands that are about 9 feet, but they are well camo'd. The stand I got my 10 pointer with a bow was only 7 1/2 or 8 feet high and the deer never noticed me. Depends on the area. nutz4bucks
Re: stand hieght??? most of the time 15-20 ft but, in rare occasions it's pushing 30 ft hunt alot of ridges so the one side seems higher than the other

Guest Bushpilot
Re: stand hieght??? [ QUOTE ] 30-45 feet [/ QUOTE ] Yeah... for rifle or muzzle loader...no doubt height is good. Shooting a bow from that height and (alot of times) extreme angle? Come on. No need to reply...there is no doubt in my mind that you'll come up with a kill story or whatever. As stated...for rifle and muzzle loader I go as High as I can in that particular tree. (wind permitting as well) But for bow...15 to 18ish. I can tell by the string that I drag the bow up with. rhine16
Re: stand hieght??? i'll go anywhere from 12 to 30'. on average though 20-22 is what i like. but i go 25-30 plenty of times if i need to get high cause of wind or naked trees. Rhino
Re: stand hieght??? Depends on the situation. I prefer to take advantage of cover more so than being concerned about a specific stand height. My stands go from ground level (ground blinds) to 30' but most are in the 14' to 22' range. Adjam5
Re: stand hieght??? I like to go 15' up. I use the string I pull my bow up with to determine that height. At that height, I believe you are out of the deers eye sight plane. If you've ever been busted... We all know deer do look up I think that is a good height in regards to the plane of the arrow your launching. If you can hit the kill zone standing on your head by all means do it. Just know you can make the shot you before you launch that arrow. I guess higher can't hurt as far as sight and scent control goes, but it really has to impede your success if you are too high up with a bow. Gun...no problem. GWSmith
Re: stand hieght??? [ QUOTE ] i'm a 20' guy ... or i use a ground blind!!! Bowtech_archer07
Re: stand hieght??? I usually hunt 15 ft. or on the ground. However, we have a stand on one of the places we hunt that is 10 ft. up in a oak tree that remains brushy year round and we have killed more deer out of that stand than any stand on any place we have ever bowhunted. To me, height doesn't matter, it is cover and timing when to move is important.

hunter336
Re: stand hieght??? I am usually right at 20 feet in my climber (length of the gear rope). If I use a hang on I have been anywhere from 12-25 feet depending on if I use a climbing stick or screw in steps.

TOMSD5
Re: stand hieght??? 10 ft to the ground...in warm weather i hunt a stand that is 10 ft high but it's on the top of a steep ridgeline....so in some cases im prob. 20 ft but in cold weather since my accident i hunt from the ground....and have taken more deer from the ground than out of the stand....
