Hello to everyone on the site. Glad to be here and seems like alot of information on the site. I have a raingear question. I have about had it with my raingear. First I have a two year old pair of Rocky boots with gore tex suppose to be waterproof. Yea right work just like a sponge. I treated my walls rainsuit with a product that redhead sells to re-waterproof your raingear. It worked for about a half hour then soaked up water like before. Any suggestions what you guys have found that works. Need a comfortable warm hiking style boot not rubber. Rather have a rainsuit to fit over my other clothes. Thanks smile.gif

Re: New member intro and raingear question

Welcome to the forum.

As far as a rain suit, I use the quietest one I can find in goretex. When in a stand I put up an umbrella. As for hiking boots...can't help you there much. I mainly use rubber boots for deer hunting and Lacross snake boots for turkey hunting. My Lacross boots have served me well so far for being water proof but they're only 2 years old. I had the same problem you have with Rocky boots. They stayed fairly water proof for the 1st year or so and that was it.

Re: New member intro and raingear question

Is goretex all it is cracked up to be? Isn't that whats in the rocky boots that is suppose to make the waterproof? I just don't want to put alot of money in something goretex then two years from now it doesn't repell water anymore. My hunting is mostly at least a hour or two walk to my stand and alot of climbing. Rubber boots are not that comfortable and make your feet sweat.

Re: New member intro and raingear question

The best boot I have found for staying dry are the Wolverine Antelope's. They have proven the best for me. As far as rain gear goes Cabela's MT050 rain gear is the best I have ever had. It has kept me dry besides they are soft and quiet made of gortex and have scent-lok.

Re: New member intro and raingear question

I'm a big fan of Gore-Tex. I have the Cabelas brand (think it's made by 10X) rain gear in Advantage camo. The first set I had lasted about 10 years. It finally started leaking after I poked some holes in it crossing barbed wire fences, with fish hooks, etc. My current set is about 3 years old and doesn't leak a drop.

For boots, I usually wear snake boots year round. Mine are the Bass Pro Shops brand (think they're made by Rocky) and they've stayed waterproof for about 2 years now.

Thanks for the advice guys. Anyone else have problem with Rocky boots? I contacted them and they said only guaranteed waterproof for one year.
