Guest JackRussel
Can powder pellets be safely used with an inline muzzleloader #11 cap? I bought a package of pellets and when I opened the package it said they should only be used with 209 primers. Thanks.
hangunnr
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? I shot Pyrodex pellets out of my Remington using #11 caps until I switched to musket caps. I didn't have any problems burning 100gr of pellets. I don't know how well the 777 pellets would light. and BTW, Welcome to the Realtree forums!!! hangunnr
wtnhunt
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? Welcome to the forums. Use percussion caps here, but use loose powder. Dont know why the caps would not ignite the pellets the same as they do the powder.
Jeramie
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? Im guessing the flash point wouldn't be that much different then pyrodex. In my mind the only concern would be that you may get in consistent powder burn from the small cap. Now in the real world, Im betting they perform fine. Once loose powder is packed I Dont see a huge difference between the two. IMHO I doubt it would make enough of a difference to matter. Again, the only problem I can fathom in inconsistence. gitcha_some
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? i mena if it says it on the box then y not listen to the box? they put warnings there for a reason
Jeramie
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? Sure it may say it on the box but you have to think of the reason it may be on there. Using a primer that isnt as hot doesnt bring up any real danger. My guess would be it was based more off consistancy of the burn. I wonder, what if it has to do with the ignition? The one thing I would be SURE of is that I had a clean nipple. If that thing has any crud at all you better get it good and clean.
bowtech
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? I used to sho pellets ut of my knight with the #11 caps .could not get a group at all.i called knight and they told me that there guns will not shoot pellet if using caps .bought the 209 conversion kit and not i shot really good groups ... with the #11 caps you may not get them to burn all the powder and really mess up the way your groups will be
too_pointer
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? I never did like #11 caps, and used the #209 primers the first chance I got. I haven't much experience with the percussion caps, but hear from many they work great too_

Btw, I wont buy another cap unless its for my .44 pistol. The 209 is MUCH more effective IMHO.
wtnhunt
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? Guess I am a bit of an oddball when it comes to caps. I prefer standard percussion caps on my black diamond. Can easily get the caps on or off with my fingers if or when I have to very quickly. The 209 primers, they will not come off when time to put another one on with out using the capper, at least not on my gun. The capper I have for the #11 caps is also easier to get the caps in under my scope as well. The remington hotter caps they came out with about 4 or 5 years ago are pretty good, and while they may not be as hot as a shotgun primer, so long as you keep the breech and nipple clean, you should not have any problems. I have never had a misfire or any hesitations with ignition whatsoever with them in my black diamond. Having shot both, I have seen no difference in my groups with my setup from one to the other. I do think the 209 puts off a lot more fire and would probably be better in wet/humid conditions. but if you keep the gun clean and dry... no major difference.. TurkeyHunter
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? Thats odd I use (2) 50G = 100 Pyrodex Pellets with my Knight gun the past 5+ years with the #11 caps and shoots great!!! If your using the new Triple 7 pellets for the new guns or 209 Primers maybe thats what you bought and are not suggested with the #11 primers???? I recently bought a T/C Omega because I wanted to switch to a 209 primer gun plus I like to collect guns.

Its all I ever used in my Remington 700ML. 2 Pyrodex pellets and the #11. Never once had a misfire. Not once.
KyBucks
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? It might be something you just have to figure out for yourself. My dad has a Knight and it wont set the charge off at all with caps when using the pellets. I guess some guns have different attitudes! bowtech
Re: Pellets with #11 Cap? Yea .my knight also had the same problem with caps and the pellets.some times it would go off but usually a delay .or just crazy patterns
