bbass300
Last year was first year to hunt with muzzleloader and i shot 100 gr powerdex pellets. Got a new piece of property with lots of big fields, thought about upping it to 150 gr. what do you think? thanks

wtnhunt
Re: what grain to shoot? Would shoot the load that best performs inyour gun. Upping your cahrge may not give you great results in accuracy. Would definitely try the loads at the range and see how they perform before hunting with the increased charge. Jeramie
Re: what grain to shoot? William nailed this one, upping the powder could effect your gun greatly. Also, what grain of sabot are you shooting? That can make a huge difference. Regardless, Id spend some time at the range and see the maximum effective range with your current setup or stepping up a little (50grn is a huge jump). You may be surprised at the performance now. I shot a Traditions for years that I had sighted in at 100yds. I could easily take a shot to 150 and that was with my standard load. Another 50grn of powder wouldn't have done anything for me. There is a good chance that dropping the weight of your projectile will help on those long range shots too.. However, id still test the abilities of your current loads being its so late in the game.
