VTbowman
I hunt my own land but unfortunately its not located in big buck country. An occasional medium sized buck may stroll threw but as a rule we have a few 4s and 6s and a ton of spikes (illegal to shoot now). Bow season is "doe" season here for us on my property. However... LOL I want to try to draw something in. I got a new HS True Talker and a rattle bag. I had tried rattling many years ago with zero luck and just gave uop on it, so I was wondering when is the best time of day and conditions for rattling NE bucks? I have read everything I could find, seen TV shows, etc.. but most times these are in areas where the monsters roam. I need some advice and tactics for the smaller, not dominate buck. Thanks. Guest lostiniowa
Re: Mid October rattling in the NE? couple things... for smaller bucks, i have rattled them in using almost any technique.. try light sparring first and if you do not have any success go harder and longer. With your true talker play around with it.. for smaller bucks use the young buck call. If you use your dominant call with it you will probably just scare away the smaller less agressive bucks.. my .
VTbowman
Re: Mid October rattling in the NE? So pretty much all the same tips as anywhere? LOL Anyone from up in the NE? Id like to hear what those guys do or dont do to draw them NE bucks in.. Or should I just hold off until the rut hits since this is not a big buck area with a buck to doe ratio of about 1:13... Not a lot of buck compitition with a ratio like that.
Guest Deepwoods1
Re: Mid October rattling in the NE? Im hunting in Maryland right now. The rule around here (so Im told by the older gents) is to start soft with the rattling. The bucks are just playing around with their horns right now, so soft sparring should do the trick. As for the grunt tube. Use the smaller buck grunt, and blow as soft as you can without making it sound unusual. This usually works pretty good for me when I go home to hunt Indiana and Illinoise. So yeah I guess the same tips from anywhere else will work.. Hahaha..
