Just got back to PA today. Had a GREAT time & hunt in South Western Colorado with Colorado Bob & some of his friends. I wil post a detailed story later...but for now here are some pictures.

The adventure begins. Left to right, Colorado Bob, Chad, Iron Buck (bill) & Larry

After a 2+ hour ride on a jeep trail (nice term for what we rode in on!) We were setting up camp. Notice Bob sticking his head out from inside grin.gif That is Larry at the entrance. Chad is in the backgound

Tent is fully up.

A three mile hike from camp.........up at 12,000 feet. Bob shows me the magic spot his elk honey hole grin.gif

My turn to hunt Bobs spot, Sunday night. This was my view settling in.

6pm that night........a 5x4 bull comes in. I was shooting from the treeline ridge at 12 Oclock from my bulls antlers. There is a small orange spot there where I hung a vest. I used Bob's extra Tika 30-06 on this hunt. I was surprised at the elks non reaction to 4 hits from a 180 grain 30-06 nosler partiotions. The bull only went 45-50 yards....but he had no reation to tehe hits. Through the lungs...twice, through the shoulder, finallly a neck, spine hit dropped him for

good.

Just some more pics of the bull. The way we hunted we were never closer than a mile from each other. So I was not able to get pictures of me with the bull before I caped, boned & packed the meat.

The happy ...almost wink.gif elk hunter. This is me with a pack that we later weighed in at 98 pounds! I hiked it 3 miles back from where I got the bull. This was Tuesday at lunch time. My last load. But a storm was HAMMERING us. Bob was nervous. It was time to break camp & get out of the high country as fast as we could. If we could.

Camp was down & packed in a 2 hour wind sprint. Bob said...forget the pics...lets get outa here! I said...Where is the road? Not joking. We were on a road for 7 miles that NO ONE had driven on in 2 days. we had 4 feet snow drifts, Ice & 16" of snow to fight until we got to lower elevations & saw our first truck. But we still had a hairy ride out from there. As we went lower, we still had snow, but the roads were not as bad as the "rubicon trail" section for the first 7 miles. We were the ONLY hunters that high.

As we got below the storm, I took a few pictures looking up. Notice that it was only raining down below! amazing.

On a serious note..elk hunting is NOT for the faint at heart or out of shape. We sterted the hunt with fours guys, but Chad, a local, got altitude sickness so bad that he had to be taken down by Larry his father in law Saturday night. That was opening day. The rest of the time it was just Bob & I in camp.

A wall tent with a stove can be the difference between staying on the hill in a storm and getting your Bull. Or having to go home because you are cold and wet. congrats again.
