Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic):

The following photos are graphic in nature but should be seen by anyone shooting Carbon Arrows.

These particular arrows were Carbon Express made by Game Tracker's.

By the appearance of the fletching it appears to be a new or fairly new arrow.

I know these are being sold at Wal-mart and other locations.

From what little I know about the photos; The injury was caused when the arrow was released and it simply exploded before clearing the rest.

Please be careful and be warned.

If these photos are too graphic please feel free to remove them or move them to another thread.

Re: Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic):

yow!

that dude had to have been extremely underspined i would think.

ouch

i centered a rock once in Illinois. i thought for sure the arrow exploded. when i got down to find remnants, i found a perfect arrow with a dented field tip and a broken nock, but the Goldtip XT was otherwise in perfect shape. confused.gifcool.gif

Re: Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic):

there must me more to the story then what is told. Probaby shooting an underspined arrow or hit a branch!!!!! I can not believe the arrow just exploded. He should have checked his arows for cracks before he shoots them. Every year or when I buy new arrows I check to see if they are cracked or damaged at all!!!!!

Ouch!

Don't be quick to judge Carbon Express though, chances are, that could have been avoidable. Check your arrows before every shot! I do and have yet to any any problems.

I don't think the CX's are available at Wal-Mart (not mine anyway). A less expensive sytle (Carbon Express Terminators) are. CX's are available at bigger outdoor stores, like BPS, Gander Mountain, etc.

Obviously he was shooting right handed arrows off a left handed bow....

Didn't know there was a difference grin.giftongue.gifgrin.gif

It just doesn't seem right to me...how can and arrow explode and drop down and go into your hand like that, that fast? either he did something incredably(sp) dumb or i don't think the picture is real

Re: Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic):

I can probably figure this one out. I used to shoot wood arrows when I was younger. If I came to full draw and decided not to shoot the arrow I would hold the arrow with my index finger, so it wouldn't flop off the rest. I had my finger pressed on the arrow a little too hard and would put the arrow in a bind shattering it and barely missing my hand. Another possiblilty is he shot while he had his finger up on the arrow, unaware he forgot to take his finger off. This is a good reason not to use your index finger period to hold the arrow in place or keep it from falling while at draw or drawing.

Who knows I could be wrong could be the way his bow was set up too. I have yet personally to see a carbon arrow shatter and I'll keep shooting them.

well that just might be enough for me to never switch from aluminum even if it will make my bow shoot faster.

Re: Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic):

Well said carbonhunter.

I was gonna say I had seen almost the same type of pic with an alum arrow too.

This guys arrow HAD to of been damaged prior to the release.

He simply did not check it or if he knew it was slightly damaged he had shot it ump-teen times and nothing happend before this.

Hard lesson learned to check those arrows. Aluminium AND carbons alike can "explode" and cause this type of injury.

I know its hard to not shoot an arrow with very minor damage, nicks, bends, etc. They are expensive.

But not as expensive as a medical bill.... and I mean more then money too.

Re: Exploding Carbon Arrows (graphic):

Im new to archery so Im still in the very aware stage and check my goldtips when they have impacted somethig solid and always check out my alpine bow from axle to axle and then inspect all of my arrows prior to shooting them.. I have been called extreme by my father who is a vetran bow shooter and I say the samething to him everytime time.. better safe than sorry... but boy that had to hurt something awful....yikes

Hey...Just hold the target up a little bit more......THWACK blush.gif

I believe that CarbonHunter said it: Check your equipement!!!

I have shot Carbon Express for years now and have no problems with any of my arrows...and yes I have throw out a couple because I slapped the side of them on a rock or two. I did not feel comfortable shooting them again...especially with visible scars on the sides of them.

I'm shooting 70# limbs, 294 FPS, and although I switched to Bemans ICS Hunters recently it was because the Pro Shop in town didnt carry Carbon Express...thats the only reason I'm not shooting them now.

FLEX IT FIRST---

seems some olde carbon arrows i saw had this written on it-- might help ya find a weak one.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats what they told me to do! Before each shot take the arrow and flex it, it you hear or see any cracks throw the arrow away! I do this before each shot. Since I have been shooting, for three months now I found one arrow that made a cracking noise! I broke it in half so nobody will use it! Ill still shoot carbon! But nasty pics none the less!!!
