Weatherby Vanguard!!!

I just came in from a very (VERY) informal bench session with my daughter's Weatherby Vanguard Compact .308 Win.

Tomorrow is youth day for doe. I recently swapped scopes for her and she wasn't available to do the sight-in. So I took it out here beside the house to put it on paper.

After the first 2 shots (I'm shooting 50 yards) and moving the scope over a good deal..........I started shooting 2-shot groups and making finer adjustments around the bull. Every 2-shot group was one hole!! Now, granted, I'm only shooting 50 yards. But the 2 holes were all in the 1/10" - 3/10" range. Not bad for an initial guess on a handload and a bone-stock factory rifle (and shooting off a cobbled & crappy rest).

But the other thing that really grabbed my attention was the recoil. Actually.........the lack of recoil. shocked.gif The loads I was using were 3 grains under max with a 150 gr. bullet............not wimpy by any standard. The gun doesn't kick!! It goes 8 lbs. on the nose with a Burris FF2 3x9 scope. Not light...but not heavy either. My daughter's kinda like her old man in that she's not very recoil-sensitive. But, I'm thinking one of these rifles in .243 would have to be the ultimate for a recoil-shy shooter. I'm also thinking I have several rifles I'd trade to have one of these things. wink.gif
