Guest nebraska_justin
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? Lohman makes a nice kit. They have nice wood (walnut i think) and a brushed brass skull platre. I have used them for several mounts.
RangerClay
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? Being a shop teacher I usually make my own. However last year I bought this Gametracker kit (pictured below) because I was in a hurry and I wanted the photo insert. It is a joke!! Poorly packaged. Almost no directions. The skull cap is too small to fit large deer skulls. When I emailed the company with questions they would not respond. DO NOT BUY THIS KIT!! WABS
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? We always just make our own and they look very similar to what RangerClay has above. Toughest part is to get a nice piece of wood - oak or walnut is my preference. Make it big enought to ensure you have room at the bottom for a picture (and any slug you find in the deer). Run a bolt through the skull and through the wood. Get some plaster of paris and brown or black felt at a hobby store -- and your set.

3whunt
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? we like to leave the horns attached to the skull and bleach it. looks good with or without a plaque... we always had the same problem with the cap being to small... they must have made them for "southern" arizona deer... Guest nebraska_justin
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? i know a guy who did a europien mount and then painted the skull with a black and grey spakle spray paint. It looked very nice. (the paint was the textured kind)
WABS
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? I mount mine onto a piece of plywood and use plaster of paris to build my own shape over the bone - then using either spray paint or varnish (don't need alot, I cover with a piece of brown or black felt. I think they come out looking pretty nice. I'll have to try and put on a picture.

The plate looked nice and I liked the picture frame added but lacking quailty for sure for the mounting parts and skull size!
browning_gold_12
Re: Anyone Know of a good lookin\' antler mounting kit? any skills at all, and you can do your own. 1. saw off antlers, getting as close to the back of the bases as possible, cutting straight down into the skull, so the rack will be upright when attached to the plaque. make the second cut just above the eye socket, where the skull is at its narrowest point. 2. clean off hair and meat. it is actually easier to do this before cutting off the antlers, but this is how i get most of them. 3. cut out a piece of 3/4'' plywood in the shape of a teardrop. at the rounded end, (top), i needs to be just a smidge wider than the skull. 4. drill two 1/4'' holes in the skull cap, and attach it to the teardrop, at the top. 5. get some modeling clay, and build it up below the skull cap down to the point, and up over the skull cap smoothing everything out evenly. note: put a small piece of rope,1/4'' or 3/8'', around the bottom of the pedicle. this will keep the clay from building up around the bases too much, and allow you to tuck in your felt. 6. allow the clay to dry, then cover it with felt, or material of chioce. i use the fuzzy stuff from walmart. it covers any imperfections in the clay, and it is a little stretchy. 7. drill two holes in your plaque, and put screws through the back of the plaque into the teardrop. 8. attach a hanger, i uses 1/4'' screw eyes, to the top of the plaque to hang it by. i do 70 or 80 a year this way. nice little sideline business. for a small fee, you can ship them to me and i will do it for ya! here are some pics of mine.
