If you're interested we'll have MCH draft up a nice high interest loan for you. Like I said, he pitched a heck of a game and I don't think the pine tar would have had anything to do with that anyway. I just can't understand how it wasn't a bigger deal seeing how its the World Series. I mean, he's been accused of cheating before, and its not like something like that should ever be let go with a "go wash your hands and then get right back out there." just seemed like a strange situation, not sure what to make of it. MUDRUNNER
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... If it was a "foreign substance", who's to say he didn't have it somewhere else....like in his glove too.No matter what it was,in my eyes it was intentional, and was dealt with completely wrong. [/ QUOTE ] i see what you are saying there...i knew as soon as they did the first close up of him last night that this was going to be all over the news. IMO....if it was pine tar...then hey...hats off to him for getting away with it..obviously the cards seen something, but thats their fault for not saying anything or pressing the issue..the should have asked the umpire to check his hand... and no, i would not like to buy it that land...i have been looking at a summer house in Antarctica..not sure if i can manage the payments on both...although i did just collect $200 by passing go..so i got that goin for me
DSGB
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... Whatever it was, it's kinda strange that he had the same thing on his hand during both games he pitched in the ALCS.
Nick
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... Oh well....He pitched with it for 1 inning. Then he pitched another 7 scoreless without the stuff. So do we really think it made that big of a difference? I dont think so...
iabow
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... I personally believe it was pine tar on his hand, judging by the still photos. I've never seen dirt have a glare and never seen it leave a stain after being washed off. That being said after whatever it was was washed off and he still was dealing, so I give him credit on a great game. Now I have heard that on really cold days the ump will secretly allow pine tar on the rosin bag or something for the pitchers to have a better grip in the cold. They would never admit it though. Now if the Cards would have pushed the issue and they found out it was pine tar, the rule states ejection from the game and a 10 game suspension. Which would have taken Kenny out for this season, that's why it would be important to me but no crying now as far as I'm concerned. Play ball. Though I'm pretty surprised St. Louis didn't make a bigger deal out of the pine tar...errrrrrrrrr...."dirt" on his hand. [/ QUOTE ] errrrrr Do you happen to be a clone? AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... Tigers got the win, St. Louis did not complain about it at the right time. MUDRUNNER
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... On the local news last night they showed his hand in the series against the A's and he had the same stuff on the same spot. They also pointed out that his hat was different than the rest of the players, his having an extra thick bill, which he started going to with his hand every few pitches after the first. It's a done deal now and IMO he got away with one. [/ QUOTE ] i don't think that has anything to do with "cheating" he does that after every pitch..he adjusts the bill then the back every pitch..at least he has done it as long as he has been in Detroit..not sure about before he got here...i would imagine he did though...pitchers have some weird rituals...i have a friend who played college ball and he did the same thing over and over again...it was kinda funny watching him...he'd go glasses, bill, back of cap after every pitch..but like you said, its a done deal...and he got away with it (or may not have done anything )

Thats actually probably a more popular and safer place to have it if your a pitcher that cheats.

MUDRUNNER
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... EEAASSYY fellas. It will be intersesting to see how he pitches in game 6 since he'll be watched so closely, that is, unless the Cards win the next three.I have a feeling he won't won't be as good, but we'll have to wait and find out. toddyboman
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... ok first off it is very strange that he had the same stuff on his hand in other games (vs the A's and Yankees) and nothing was said or no one noticed?? And we all know how great he pitched then. Secondly I think its weird that the umps just said wash it off?? Why was nothing more said or looked at??? And he probably continued to use it after teh first inning he just did a better job of not making it so obvious. The other thing that shocks me is the cards didnt do or say anthing else about it when it all came up. And lastly for K. Rogers's coments which was something like it was just dirt. That was a bad comment for him to make. I am pretty sure if it was "just dirt" he would have noticed it and wiped it off. It will be very interesting to see how he pitches his next outing. colts1888
Re: Kenny Rogers does it again... [ QUOTE ] yeah i seen them play that on cold pizza....and i have gone to ESPN.com and looked at that video over and over...the blew in his hands and wiggled his fingers...i'm not even sure if his fingers even touched his hand..sure didn't look like it to me.....its just ESPN doing what the media always does and try and keep stretching things out...maybe it was dirt, maybe it was pine tar...heck...maybe it was chew...ever accidentally put your hand where someone has spit some kodiak or something? i have...looks just like that...maybe it was him chewing...and it got on his hands when taking out...who knows, bottom line..it was there the first inning and thats it...the rest of the game he dominated the cards. [ QUOTE ] and his palm had a slight stain on it most of the night [/ QUOTE ] Dirt is the same color..especially the dirt on the baseball field...and when it gets wet, its going to get on things..mix that wet dirt with the rosin bag and see what happens...you think they worry about going in and washing there hands completely with soap after every inning? look at every fielders hands after every game and unless they run back and wash off real quick (other than wiping off with a towel) they are going to be dirty...i'm not saying thats what it was...but hey, its a possiblity..unless you were actually there and actually inspected his hands...how can you say that it IS pine tar?? if the cards didn't worry about it and make a big deal over it...why should everyone else? [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, but you are reaching now. I played baseball most of my life and played it on just about every type of field u can imagine, including brick, and i never had a problem with stains after i washed my hands. Plus, as other have already said, his hand clearly has the same "dirt" on it in both games he had thrown earlier in the playoffs. Do you honestly believe that was coincidence? And just because it was in an obvious spot doesnt mean it couldnt have been something like pine tar, afterall, this is Kenny Rogers we are talking about and he isnt exactly the sharpest tool in the shed if you know what I mean? If and when he piches again, lets see if that "dirt" is present for the 4th time this postseason. How much you wanna bet that mysteriously this time it isnt there?
