Ever get so wound

Do you ever get so concentrated on the shot and focused after deciding you have a good deer you are looking at and decide you are going to take the deer, that you do not take the time to try to count points. Ever after the hunt if for some reason you did not get that shot or missed are left wondering how many points the deer actually had?

I also make the decision, then forget about antlers. Defining a "shooter" for me is like when the Supreme Court tired to define "pornography"...one of the justices simply said, "I know it when I see it." Once I know it and see it, I don't even look at the antlers, then it's like opening a present on Chirstmas when you walk up on them. Due to circumstances, I have had the chance to really look over a couple of bucks, but those were longer shots, or deer I saw when scouting, and hunted later. Most of my deer are taken at very short range, so it all happens very fast.

Sure William. There have been times when I didn't need to worry about counting points because I knew it was a shooter. I've killed some that had more points than I thought. Then there are some where I just didn't get a clear shot and wasn't sure how many points he had. That happened last year. I knew in an instant he was a big, mature buck with a heavy, wide rack but I never did get a clear shot or even bother to count up points. Didn't need to.
