First deer with a bow...

Not mine, my hunting partner Sue. This weekend she had a doe walk about 6 feet from her stand. She waited and let it walk by her, when it got out about 12 yards it turned broadside. She drew back and let it fly, looked like a good hit. A little bit later she had a young buck do lmost the same thing but she decided to pass on him.

We met back at the holuse and heard the story and headed out with the flashlights to retrieve her deer. Unfortunately we found very little blood, first blood was approx 20 yards from the stand, a smear and hair on the side of a small tree. We found a few light drops at approx 30 yards and the nothing. we followed one of the trails up the hill a little bit in the direction she had heard the deer go, found no more sign so we decided to wait until morning.

Next morning we (Sue, Tim and I) headed back out. I told Sue that it one benefit is that I was hunting at the top of the hill just off to the left and she didn't go by me the night before so that cut down on the area we focused on. There were 3 trails where we stoppped the night before, we each took one and headed toward the back of the property. I took the trail that dropped down into the ravine, hoping that I could spot a white belly along the side of the hill. When I got to the property line I hadn't seen anything and walked down the line and met up with Tim. We waited for Sue and she finally showed up, she had found her about 50 yards from where we had stopped the night before, just laying off the side of the trail.

I videoed Sue gutting the deer for my nieces anatomy class - I also mentioned to all that were viewing the tape that the comments about the smell when gutting wasn't that bad, in fact it smells just like a cup of hot coco grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif Anyway nice doe, probably 3.5 years old. Te shot clipped the top of the lung on the entrance side and pretty much right through the middle of the second lung and into the shoulder with no exit wound, which was the reason for no blood trail.

I'm really happy for Sue, she's taken a few with a shotgun, but it has taken her 4 years to get it done with a bow with several ups and downs along the way - I know finding that doe was extremely satisfying for her.

Tim took some pics but they arent developed yet so no pics at this time. Also sorry about all the typos blush.gifgrin.gif
