Palssonater
Well we went and got our tree last night. I bought one of those classic red and green stands with the four eyebolts in the collar for securing it. The words that came out of my mouth while I was trying to get the tree to stand up, and then stand up straight were not very Christmasy last night!!! Then this morning answered the call of nature at about 4:30am and noticed the tree had once again fallen over. So here I am, early in the morning at 4:30am setting up the tree. Again not feeling very Christmasy. Turn around and Jenn got up with me and had the decorations ready to go and the carols going on the stereo. 4:30am decorating....now it feels christmasy!!! Made the egg nog coffee and had a good morning!
HuntingInMaine
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! I ALWAYS tie the tree and nail it to the wall. I have re-decorated way too many trees! LOL Sounds like you have a very nice woman there, hope you are getting her something good for Christmas.

Jeramie
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! Spend the extra doe on one of the better stands. Yeah, they're a lot more expensive but they last for a long time (literally years). But I guess if you do you'll miss those early mornings...... That would be a tough trade. Guest Greener
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! I know what you mean Palsonnator. I've had many battles with trees to get them straight. It can sure ruin the festive spirit. But that egg nog coffee is hard to beat! What kind of tree did you get? We got our tree this year at one of the you-cut-it places. Man, do they have a bunch of crooked trees! I'm the kind of guy that likes that perfect tree, big and full, but they are hard to find at those places. Once I got over it and remembered that we were out there for the experience and my little 2 year old son. It was a lot of fun. We ended up with a pretty decent tree too. It just took a bit of looking. It was really funny, my wife was going from tree to tree, asking "How about this one? How about this one?" After a few minutes Tomas started doing it too. Only he was so bundled up all you could hear was mumbling! We'll probably set it up next week. Then the big thing will be to keep him from yanking all the decorations off. Palssonater
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! I normally go out and get a pine on the ski doo. Big production and makes for a great evening. However last night, and the rest of this week we are fairly busy and caved and went to a U-cut. Spent about 40 bucks and got a great looking Balsam Fir. Makes the house smell great! It felt wrong in a way but it was nice to get a tree unlike charley brown's.
Guest Greener
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! Yeah, I really like the Balsam Firs. They do smell great. We settled for a Scotch Pine this year. The place we went to only had already cut balsams and we wanted to cut one done with Tomas. So we went with the pine.

huntinsonovagun
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! Ya'll are hard-core!! My parents have never had a live tree since I've been growing up. They always said they were too dangerous. I like the ease of artificial (sp?) trees. Sounds like fun getting them to stand up too!!
Washi
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! We used to always dig up a cedar tree and put it in a bucket or plastic tub with some gravel and dirt. It would get greener and greener the longer it was in the house and smell good too. Sometimes we wouldn't get it out of the house until spring. Guest ILBrad
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! Man have I had some battles with the real trees, I pretty much have to send the kids away. They don't need to associate that language with Christmas, it is bad enough to hear it while I am road raging. We have had a fake tree the past two or three years and I notice this year I really miss the real tree, I catch myself wanting to change out right now. Next year we will be back with a real tree, and ear muffs for the kids.
NY911Bowhunter
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! We got our tree last night too - it is the first one in 5 years that went up without a fight or ANY cursing!!!! Must be the charm of your first Christmas in your own home!!!!!! We got the same tree stand as Harvdog!
SaskMan
Re: O\' Christmas Tree!! I'm getting pressure from the wife to "hurry up and go cut down a tree" so I guess tomorrow I'll walk out into the woods behind the house and cut down a little jack pine or spruce. Our 11 1/2 month old is starting to walk so whatever I cut, it'll hit the floor a time or two.
