StillLearnin
Well with the season right around the corner I am looking at some gear that might be helpful. So I was wondering if I could get feedback from some one that has one or has used one. Avery makes an adjustable length decoy retrever that extends out 18 feet. It looks like this. The only rating it has on the cabelas web site is from a guy that says the ends break easily. Does any one have any experience with anything similar to one of these. Also for anyone in the market for a new duck call, I just bought my girlfriend a Primos Yo' Sista and it sounds really good, I am thinking about buying myself one. As for the girlfriend sounding good, she stills needs a little work, but she is making progress. And if you live any farther north than Oklahoma Please send me a few banded ones
smallmunster
Re: Waterfowling Gear? I have that decoy retriever and the end is somewhat fragile, it has to be to be light and extend that far. I learned quickly that if it is all the way extended that you pull the decoys in, don't lift them. I bent it a bit on the first couple of dekes that I tried to lift, never had a problem after switching to pulling them in. It has 4 or 5 sections that extend out so you don't have to extend the most fragile sections unless the dekes are still beyond your reach. I have used it many times from a boat and from shore. Well worth the $30 or so in my opinion.
clayman
Re: Waterfowling Gear? My brother has the retrieving pole. We typically hunt in waters that are wadeable so haven't had much use for it. However there have been a couple of times that it did come in handy for retrieving birds that fell in deep water and we didn't have a dog nearby. As smallmunster said: use it to pull your decoys or birds to you - don't lift with it. In the right situations it can be extremely helpful. Covehnter
Re: Waterfowling Gear? My buddy ordered one last year before season and when i saw it i commented on how useless that thing would be. . . . i was wrong. Picking up decoys from the boat in deep waters that pole has been well worth the $30.

Randy
Re: Waterfowling Gear? Do you use a push pole? I take a 14 foot piece of 1 1/4" closet pole, put a duck bill on one end and a hook like for hanging your bike in the garage on the other. That way you don't even have to get out of the boat to pick up decoys.
