Mags and 7mm STW's is quite insufficent for anchoring those nasty chucks.
iron buck
Re: Mosquito with a Cannon? Sounds like a plan! I here from time to time.............those Indiana Co. groundhogs do charge. WaCoyote
Re: Mosquito with a Cannon? [ QUOTE ] I met a guy at a gun shop about 5 years ago buying a beautiful Browning Abolt 300 win mag. He said he was hunting with a 06 & was tired of the deer running off after being shot. I guess I looked at him like he was stupid. [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm!?!?! Lets see, he gains abot 200fps out of the win mag with the same size pill and the deer will miraculously die better than with a 30-06? Sorry but I don't think so. My buddy shoots a 300 win mag and his deer react the same as my 30-06 deer do. Sometimes they drop sometimes they run a little but they always die just the same. He also thought that his 300 was far superior to a lowly 30-06 until he started handloading and realized that they are not really that different at all. I shoot a 30-06 and have for years but I'm going to actually downsize. I geuss I've got reverse magnumitus. I think I'm going to go with a .270 or a 25-06 for deer. It's just funner to shoot when recoil is low. I'll save the bigger guns for bigger critters.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Mosquito with a Cannon? Well, Saturday morning I shot a 130 lb whitetail doe at approx 200 yards with my 7 mag. She dropped in her tracks and never so much as twitched. I placed the shot just behind the shoulder and there was no meat loss. In fact, she was rather tasty Saturday night! Of course we were feeding 8 people, 3 labs and a pointer!
WaCoyote
Re: Mosquito with a Cannon? That does it I'm going to use my .350 rem mag for my doe this week. But is it magnum enough since it's a shorty? It does have a belt!!! I've often wondered what a whity what do when hit by one I think I'll give it a try. You guys have converted me. I am coming to the dark side. I still like small calibers too though, is that OK?

Most all the factory loads for the .325 WSM come with premium, controlled-expansion bullets. Pick a bullet on the heavier side for caliber and hunt with confidence. Thats my hunting animal this year. LOL (am I off the porch too?) BTW I thought that "NEED" and "WANT" mean the same thing when it comes to hunting stuff. (???) Thats what my wife told me... WaCoyote
Re: Mosquito with a Cannon? Hey there!!!!!!!! You'd be proud strut, I popped a doe today with my .350. Have never taken it deer hunting but you talked me into it! I felt that a doe would require the extra power so I tried it out. I'm a little angry with you though, I "scoped" my eyebrow, the blood flowed brother! I'll post a pic for chuckles later. Maybe a .375 H&H next??
