wtnhunt
Re: Sunday Hunting [ QUOTE ] it was clear to me he was REALLY referring to the idea of GOVERNMENT imposing its will on people to be in church on Sunday instead of hunting. That's how I took it--please correct me if I'm wrong, William. That being the way I understood it, I agree with William completely. Nobody--and in particular the government--has no business to tell me to be in church on Sunday and not hunting. (Heck, they won't even let kids pray in school. Therefore, government banning Sunday hunting on religious grounds is COMPLETELY hypocritical.) [/ QUOTE ] Thank you for trying to clear up what I was saying here Mark, and yes you are correct. Swamphunter
Re: Sunday Hunting Legal in NY and should be as far as I am concerned. With busy lives, it is sometimes the only day of the week I can spend in the woods. As for it being a day of rest, I do agree however, but I consider a day in the woods rest for me. SaskMan
Re: Sunday Hunting Why am I not surprised this turned into a religious discussion not one about Sunday hunting. People can drink alcohol on Sundays They can gamble on Sundays They can go to the mall on Sundays They can watch sporting events on Sundays They can fish on Sunday yet in some places...like here, they cannot hunt Sunday. I'm not going to get into the right and wrongs and ethics of religion etc but I will say that society has changed, look at the things we can do on Sunday now. I'm not saying it has changed for the better, just that it has changed. I realize that every place is different but where I live Landowners wouldn't even notice what day of the week I decided to stroll through their woods. I'm also living in a place where the # of hunters is declining. "Hmmmm. work Mon-Fri, can only hunt once a week, I believe I'll save my money and spend it on beef, not deer tags and gas." That's a pretty common though these days unfortunately.
wtnhunt
Re: Sunday Hunting [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Dont know for sure, whether it be through misunderstanding or my choice of the way I worded what I said, I somehow think I may have possibly offended some people not intentionally, and for that I am sorry. [/ QUOTE ] I thought this a fairly friendly debate. No appology needed, but I'll acept it if it'll make you feel better. [/ QUOTE ] This is a friendly debate John, and think some in here may have ministerpretted what I was trying to say. My intentions were never to bash anyone directly, which seems to be the way some took my remarks here. That was why I apologized for not being more clear and to those who seriously felt offended. [/ QUOTE ] That is not a quote from me John, however since you bring that up, I think the sentiment in my opinion from how I perceive posts from a member or two in here is there that seems as though they think that Sunday hunting should not be allowed where it currently is, and that government should keep it the way it is where it is not allowed. johnf
Re: Sunday Hunting Personally I don't hunt on Sunday if church is going on. I don't however believe the state should dictate what days you can hunt unless they are doing it to lower harvest numbers or for some other management purpose. Hoyt03
Re: Sunday Hunting I think there are only 6 or so states that still do not allow sunday hunting. I really wish PA would change this rule. If people complain the woods need a rest then close it on wednesdays, that way us working folks could get out more then 1 day a week. Times have changed alot and in this fast paced day and age sunday hunting should be allowed and have it closed 1 day during the week. Guest whisperingdeath
Re: Sunday Hunting I really love to hunt but feel hunting on Sunday shouldn't be allowed. Many of above stated reasons for not hunting on Sunday I strongly support but another reason also touches me. I'm married as I feel most of you are and my wife is typical women and loves to talk, and talk and talk. I love her dearly but sometimes you just need a break. I feel that most game animals are subjected to a huge amount of hunting pressure 6 days a week and it is only right that they too should have a day of rest. enjoy the hunt but respect the game. johnf
Re: Sunday Hunting [ QUOTE ] I feel that most game animals are subjected to a huge amount of hunting pressure 6 days a week [/ QUOTE ] I would have to pretty strongly disagree with that statement. Around here the vast majority of hunters hunt only on the weekend. On the lease that I'm on I've hunted a few times (4-5) during the week in the past 4 years the rest of my hunting is on Saturday and mostly Saturday Morning. I have never seen another person on my lease on a weekday. Maybe it's a lot different where you are.
